All magistrates present CJE Michael Lee Stephens, voted to affirm the recommendation of Treasurer Melinda Quinn, who had been given the job of evaluating what could be done within current revenue projections.

By Ed Waggener

In its regular monthly meeting, held at the CAUD Sewer Plant, 509 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, General Manager Lenny Store delivered the welcome news that two projects, the KY 704 project, and the sewer project at Green River Commerce Park were both complete, and that the utility is should be able to advertise bids for the Burkesville Street phase of the Downtown Project sometime in July of 2017.

Finances already in place for Burkesville Street/Downtown Project

Mr. Stone said that a review of available funds for the Burkesville Street Project, which will extend from the intersection of Fortune Street & Burkesville Street, south on Burkesville Street, to the intersection with the Adair Veterans Memorial Bypass, appears to be doable with money left over from the KY 704 project plus already balances in the original $4.5 Downtown Project financing package. The project will take in side streets including Taylor Street and Sportsman's Club Road. In part of the area, there will be both a new 8" line in parallel with an existing 4" line, both of which will be used in distribution when the Burkesville Street project is complete.

Reader expresses a pet peeve about writers

Ol' Dave Rosenbaum, has written to express a pet peeve. He's wondering why some writers can't just say it, rather than express a yearning to say it.

He writes:
Almost daily I read or hear of someone who "would like to thank" someone. I always wonder just what is restraining them from actually going ahead and thanking those folks. They would like to, but are apparently unable. One of my pet peeves.
Bless you, Ol' Dave, for thy most wonderful insight: Hope our readers take note. And, by the way, Ol' Dave, we aim to eliminate "would like to" from our posts. We try to work with all. However, we do prioritize, accepting the easiest, most important submissions first, and actually filter non standard post, retrieving them when time is available. - ED

Carol Perkins: Part III of the Cruise

'He said he was James Bond.He was no James Bond. From the look of the table in front of him and the woman with him, someone had been drinking a lot of beer.' - CAROL PERKINS, remembering an encounter in Cozumel
Next earlier Carol Perkins column: Carol Perkins: Cruise 2017 - Part II

By Carol Perkins

Why I needed another piece of luggage was not necessarily because I had bought too much, but because my suitcase was two pounds overweight when we left Nashville. Luckily, one of the other women packed lighter, and I transferred my extras to her carry on.

One of the ladies and I walked across the street in Cozumel to a place that looked much like Chinatown shops crammed with "wares" from jewelry to luggage to clothing. In the process of buying the luggage, the clerk brought out a shoebox and shook it as if he were going to have a drawing. "Need any drugs?" he asked. "Do you need painkillers? I can give you anything you need." The list was staggering and both of us were a more than shocked. Evidently, local pharmacies do not require prescriptions for control substances. I wonder how many of 3,000 plus on our cruise went home with a fresh supply of painkillers.
