She was a seamstress and member of the First Church of God in Charlestown, Indiana. She was a native of Casey County, KY and a resident of Clark County, IN, at the time of her death there. She was the daughter of the late Lousel Justice, Sr. & Lizzie Baxter Justice. Her husband of 54 years, Kenneth Chumbley, Sr., survives. She leaves 13 direct living descendants

She was the matriarch of a large, highly regarded family. She was a native of Adair County, KY, and a resident of Russell County at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late Otis & Malba Harmon Burton and the widow of Hollis Jasper. She leaves 36 direct living descendants.

Governor makes appointments to the UL Board of Trustees

Frankfort, KY - Gov. Matt Bevin today announced 10 appointments to the University of Louisville Board of Trustees' 13-member board. The additional three members include student, faculty and staff representatives.

The Board is responsible for providing governance and oversight for the University's administration and is accountable for the health, reputation and integrity of the University community in all aspects.

City of Franklin Receives $997,000 Block Grant

Funding to support economic development in the City of Franklin

Frankfort, KY - The Department for Local Government (DLG) approved funding for a $997,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for construction of a rail spur off of the CSX railroad's mainline to serve the Fritz Winter North America LP automotive parts plant, which is to be constructed in the Wilkey North Industrial Park in Franklin.

Nicholas Claywell, 13, Cumberland County, KY (2003-2013)

He was an 8th Grade student at Cumberland County Middle School, where he excelled in his classes. He was involved in the Cumberland County Marching Band, and also loved playing piano. He enjoyed being involved in the community with E.R. Ministries and was a member of Burkesville Baptist Church. He was the son of Shannon and Crystal Poppino of Burkesville, KY

The family requests visitation after 4pmCT Friday, January 20, 2017 until 7:30amCT, Saturday all at Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home, 304 N Main Street, Burkesville, KY, and from 8amCT, on Saturday until the service time at 10amCT, at the Cumberland County Middle Gymnasium. Cremation will follow the services.

International students: Some travelled 15-20 hours to get here

What does it take to enroll at LWC? Besides all the "known" factors, in the case of these lovely four young ladies, it also took a lot of endurance, as their trip to reach Columbia, KY, lasted anywhere between 15 and 20 hours. Their home countries are as far away as South Korea on one side of the globe and Serbia and Bosnia & Herzegovina on the other. The students arrived over the weekend and had their orientation session on Monday, January 16, 2017.

Approximately 15 Adair County students - ranging from eighth grade through seniors - are currently working toward solving Mexico's problems, at least theoretically. The group, from Candice Flatt's Gifted and Talented class, will represent the United States' neighbor to the south in March at the Kentucky United Nations Assembly (KUNA) in Louisville, where they will present a mock resolution on which the assembly will vote.

Columbia PD arrests, jails, 11 in drug trafficking crackdown

CPD Detective Brad Scholl is continuing the investigations. More arrests are forthcoming as Chief Jason Cross vows continuing vigorous efforts to end drug trafficking in Adair County, thanking Commonwealth's Attorney Gale Williams and his office in helping remove drug dealers from streets. The Columbia Police Department has arrested several Adair County residents on drug charges. The arrest have spanned weeks as CPD officers began executing sealed indictments.
