Banned Books week speaks to freedom of reading choices

September 25-October 1, 2016
Click on headline for item with photos from observance

The annual celebration of the freedom to read anything of one's choice was held last week in the Katie Murrell Library at Lindsey Wilson College.

More than 11,000 books have been challenged since 1982 by some who would have them removed from print according to the American Library Association. Among those challenged include the Holy Bible and the Koran. The celebration of books and the freedom to read what one chooses to read was launched in 1982 in response to a sudden surge in the number of challenges to books in bookstores and libraries.
