Washington County grand jury indicts former police officer, tow truck driver Charges stem from conduct in tow truck incident which resulted in severe physical injury A charge is merely an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. From Office of Kentucky Attorney General FRANKFORT, KY. (24 Aug 2016) - Attorney General Andy Beshear today announced the indictment of a former Springfield police officer and a Springfield tow truck driver, each on second-degree assault involving the injury of an individual at St. Catharine College in April. The former officer, Michael A. Cotton, 59, of Bardstown, and the tow truck driver, Kevin Bewley, 28, of Willisburg, were indicted by a Washington County grand jury August 19 on the Class C felony charges. Investigators from Beshear's Department of Criminal Investigations, Public Integrity Unit were requested to assist on the case by the Springfield Police Department, and testified before the grand jury. According to AG investigators, the charges stem from an April 16 incident involving a 20-year-old male who was visiting friends at St. Catharine College in Springfield. Reports allege Cotton and Bewley allowed the male to remain sitting on top his car as Bewley towed it from the school property. The male then fell from the moving vehicle, causing severe physical injury. Bond for each man was set at $2,000 and each was ordered by the court not to have any contact with the male. 2016-08-24 11:14:15 | Comments | Printable version
