What do so many major venues have in common with AC Fair?

2016-06-26 - Adair County Fairgrounds, 413 Fairground Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
A trivia question which may have kept many readers awake at night: What do Kentucky's Major Outdoor Arena's - Commonwealth Stadium, Trinity High School Football Stadium, and the Adair County Fairgrounds all have in common? At least one answer is: Alum-A-Stand seating, manufactured by Dant Clayton in Louisville, KY. A visit to the company's website: Dant Clayton shows that the Adair County Fairgrounds is in very good company nationwide with this choice of seating. As we understand it, the seating can and probably will be moved to the as-yet-to-be-determined new site for the fair.

Sharon Whitehurst: On descending twists off Sanders Ridge

Sharon Whitehurst writes:
The descending twists of Sanders Ridge Road are a challenge whatever vehicle I'm driving. Jim roars down with old 'Snortn' Nortn' towing a load of firewood without missing a beat. Had you rolled by the 'Whitehurst Estate' at the hour mentioned, you might have caught me at the lower farm feeding the goats and the barn cats.

I haven't taken up goat-keeping in my declining years, but it has been interesting to help with evening 'chores' when our good neighbors are away.

Did anybody else get married on June 26?

You've probably noticed, but there are nine wedding anniversaries posted in today's Birthday List, June 26, 2016. We're not sure if this is a record, but it seems to be one.

Perhaps we've got all the June 26 couples in the region - the CM 7-County primary service area including Adair, Casey, Cumberland, Clinton, Green, Metcalfe, Taylor and Russell - but if we don't, and if we've missed any Birthdays or In Memory Birthdays, please send those, too, using any Contact/Submit button, and we'll make every effort to post.

For post of bucket list check off list: Kentucky Wineries

Mr. Marshburn writes
The good thing is that I still have a little over a hundred wineries to go! Another point is that wineries are still being opened! Downside is that I have already run into one winery near Lebanon that has been closed! - Charles Marshburn

The George Kolbenschlag + LWC Water Tower Re-painting Album

As the file on the re-painting project at the water tower at Lindsey Wilson College continues, more photos are being added to the construction chronology by George Kolbenschlag. This Sunday, the past photos have been linked into this single album which we hope everyone will re-visit often. We expect many more to pictures to be added while the envelope of time is open in our database. - EW

Darryl Smith sends link for 109 Wineries in Kentucky

Comments re article 84021 Bucket List Item Explorer wants to visit every Kentucky winery

Darryl Smith writes:
Hi Ed. Go to the Kentucky tourism site and search for wineries, look for the link to the .pdf that has 109 listed. (Or, just click here: Kentucky Wineries PDF) Happy touring! - Darryl Smith
Thanks, Darryl Smith - Of course we sure Mr. Charles "Magellan" Marshburn had that information, but mail to his house out in the frontier country at Greater Gadberry/Fairplay is slow, and we didn't want to disturb him by cranking up the phone. Your information will be very useful to CM, as we'll try to spiral around the countryside starting nearby, in Metcalfe, then Cumberland County, and work on this item, newly added to our own bucket list. - EW/LW

Today, SUNDAY with CM - 26 Jun 2016

Haiku by Robert Stone for June 26, 2016:
Do not count chickens
even day before hatching,
disasters happen.
--Robert Stone, Sunday, 26 June 2016.
-1000 haiku countdown finished, now for some more days, Day 1748

QUOTE of the DAY -

Mr. John Dunbar was Superintendent of Adair County Schools. A statement he made to the at Knifley Grade Center graduation was one Steve Sanders never forgot, and it conveys a philosophy still adhered to in the Adair County School District. Superintendent Dunbar said, Steve Sanders remembers, "Some of you will complete the 8th grade. Some will complete High School. Some will graduate for college. We're preparing all of you for that. But the most important thing I want you to know is that here, We are preparing all of you for life." Buddies Sanders remembered in that historic class were Billy Joe Wethington, Tery Fair, Paul McWhorter, and Charles Giles. - CM/Ed Waggener.
