Zach Pyles - Gatton Academy Bound!

By Shamarie Harper
Adair County Schools Media - PR/Technology Resourse Teacher/Migrant Recruiter

Word spreads quickly in our district and everyone is abuzz with chatter, pride, and congratulatory thought for a wonderful young man by the name of Zack Pyles. When I met with him this morning, there was no question who he belonged to since he is a wonderful mix of both his Dad, Doug, and His Mother, Tammy, and a humble nature that is very endearing.

When I asked Zack about his recent acceptance to the Gatton Academy he replied "it has always been my dream." I asked which area of study he preferred Science or Math and he quickly said "Both!"

The Gatton Academy is housed on the Western Kentucky University campus and acceptance is limited to 100 students per year. The academy provides a rich living and learning environment designed especially for academically talented high school students and features advanced learning opportunities and research projects yet provides enrichment for the students social life as well with clubs, organizations, and community service.

Carol Perkins: Keeping up appearances is hard work

Next previous Carol Perkins article: Carol Perkins: Parents, Grandkids, and Grandparents

By Carol Perkins

Is that my arm? It doesn't resemble the arm I had twenty years ago. I don't think I had noticed it until recently because I never wear sleeveless shirts and avoid examining my arms, neck, and other sagging parts of the body. That arm and the one that goes with it could be the arms of an alligator. Creams and lotions won't smooth alligator arms.

Age does a number on all of us, but some people age better than others. My mother's skin looks like a woman in her sixties, which is the age of which I'm hanging on to a few more months, so you can do the math how old she might be. Her face is smooth, and she credits Johnson Baby Lotion with keeping it that way. I must be too lazy to use products because I don't seem to get around to it. I don't get around to much of anything anymore. Not because I don't want menial jobs completed; I just don't want to do them. Putting on lotion is a job.

Their son, our 3rd great grandfather, William Brawner, died 1843. His wife, Mary Melinda Carlisle and their 10 children moved to Hardin/Larue County after his death.
