Adair, Taylor officials visit Secretary of State Grimes

2016-03-02 - Frankfort, KY - Photo submitted by CJE Mike Stephens and CJE Eddie Rogers.
Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes met with, from left, Taylor County CJE Eddie Rogers, (Grimes), Adair County CJE Mike Stephens, and Suzanne Ince of Homeplace on Green River, in Frankfort today. The two CJE's were searching for state funds to help with Wet-Dry Local elections, Stephens said, and said that he found that there is a possibility of getting an amount of from $150 to a little over $200 per precinct - for Adair County approximately $2,000 to go toward the $15,000 cost of the special Wet-Dry Election, somewhat more for Taylor County. He said that the Secretary said that there might me a bit for for certain supplies. "But," he said, "she said that there might not be enough money allocated for all the special elections around the state. She told us there are 63 localities planning Wet-Dry votes." Stephens said that one solution to the problem would be if the legislature would simply make the whole state subject to the same rules, eliminating the necessity for Wet Dry votes.

Christian-parent-teacher tells why she will vote 'Yes'

'So I say to the rest of the silent and possibly shamed majority: when this vote has passed & Walmart regularly carries alcohol, I am prepared for shaming stares of the contents of my shopping cart. I am prepared for the whispers and disgusted glances of our uber-conservative community members while I set the bottle of wine at the register. And when I get home and the kids are bathed, in bed, and homework done I will hoist my glass to the rest of those like myself.'

I am a Christian. I am a parent. I am a teacher.

While there is not a sign in my front yard I am part of the semi-silent majority.

I will be voting yes.

I will be voting yes for many reasons.

Shannon Sexton: Drys can't have it both ways

She also asks for full context of her thoughts be presented when quoted - and that her ideas not taken out of context

Shannon Sexton, Chair PAC writes:
Mr. Regan, if you are going to quote me, at least humor everyone with the entirety of my statement. "Nobody can legitimately say they do not support alcohol sales in Adair County. You will either go to the polls and vote Yes for the Legal sale of alcohol or you will vote No for Illegal sales."

My "go to" phrase in life is - "Don't just talk about it, be about it." Feel free to quote me on that one as well, as it is my absolute favorite.

Respectfully,
--Shannon
