List of 2016 letters received on wet-dry issue updated

Thank you to all who have submitted letters on the wet-dry issue. They are thoughtful and respectful of the opinions of others. The question is not whether alcohol is right or wrong, and it is not whether alcohol should be sold in Adair County for everyone knows it has been sold here all through history.

The question is simply whether the sale of alcohol should now be made legal. The list of all the 2016 letters has been updated. Click here to read them all. If you have written a letter and it is not included, please click the "comment" link at the end of this story and let us know.

Letter: Prefers legal sales to illegal

Mbw writes:

I prefer legal sales of alcohol in our county over illegal sales. For as long as I can remember (1952) illegal sales have cheated Adair Co. out of the taxes we could have received. It would be interesting to know the total of all those years of taxes we did not receive.

Adults who choose to drink alcohol will not be affected, one way or the other. Hopefully legal sales would also reduce the amount of alcohol purchased outside our county by persons under the legal age. - Mbw
