Jane Moore, 80, Campbellsville, KY (1935-2016)

She retired from Fruit of the Loom with over 30 years of service. She was a member of Bethel First Presbyterian Church where she was active in the Woman's Circle 34. Jane was also a former member of the Business and Professional Woman's Club and served as an election volunteer. She was the matriarch of a large, respected family. She leaves 20 direct living descendants

FRANKFORT, KY (Tue 2 Feb 2016) - Governor Matt Bevin today announced the appointment of Greg Thomas as Deputy Secretary of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. Thomas has worked for LG&E and KU Energy LLC for more than 25 years.

"I am thrilled to have Greg Thomas joining the Transportation Cabinet as Deputy Secretary," said Gov. Bevin. "His extensive private sector experience in providing statewide services and managing large budgets will be extremely beneficial for the Transportation Cabinet."

Randy Wethington, 61, Casey County, KY (1954-2016)

He was a former employee of the Kentucky Department of Transportation. Randy was an Army veteran and a member of the St. Bernard Catholic Church. He was the son of the late James maurice and Mary Anita Wethington. His wife of 41 years, Karen Hicks Wethington, survives. He leaves four direct living descendants.

Last semester during the 21st Century Community Learning Center/Camp Casey After School, Mrs. Darlene Campbell led a class called, "Book Builders". Using Write Brain Books, a research based curriculum that supports critical and higher order thinking, this project based learning experience ignited self-expression and boosted self-esteem among students. The curriculum, materials and publishing rights were a prize Mrs. Dana won at a conference; so this wonderful tool for early literacy that aligns with Core Academic Standards was completely free to students.

Louisville man, 27, sentenced to 50 years in prison for sex crimes

Prison term to be followed by a lifetime period of supervised release for the sexual abuse of a minor child and for sexually exploiting ten minor children to produce visual images. Sixteen count indictment included forcing a minor child to engage in commercial sex acts with another person.

LOUISVILLE, KY (Mon 1 Feb 2016) - United States Attorney John E. Kuhn, Jr. announced the 50 year sentence followed by a lifetime period of supervised release today, by Chief District Judge Joseph H. McKinley Jr., of a Louisville man who sexually abused a minor child, forced the minor child to engage in commercial sex acts with another person, and sexually exploited that child and nine other minor children to produce visual images.

SPRINGFIELD, KY (Tue 2 Feb 2016) – Preliminary autopsy results indicate that the victim, 53-year-old Shane E. Thomason, of Lancaster, KY, died as a result of a gunshot wound.

The autopsy was performed today at the State Medical Examiner's office in Louisville. Detective Kenny Brown is investigating and foul play is suspected.

A reasoned speech for First Amendment Rights by Columbia Attorney Mike Harris, who was as fervent in protecting the free speech rights of the poorest among us as U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell in citing the First Amendment rights of wealthy political action members, may have quelled the enthusiasm of the Columbia City Council to pass a Panhandling Ordinance at last night's regular monthly meeting of the Columbia City Council meeting.

At the meeting, Mr. Harris told the Council that even though communities pass such laws, they rarely pass higher court scrutiny when challenged, and were found to be fraught with liabilities.

SOMERSET, KY - Josh Anderson, former Major League Baseball player, was presented the Campbellsville University Leadership Award at a Pastor Appreciation Lunch held recently at Campbellsville University's Larry and Beverly Noe Somerset Education Center, at 3825c South Highway 27 next to the Technology Training Center, Somerset, KY.

Anderson coaches baseball at Pulaski County High School and is a Campbellsville University graduate student.

CMS students collect food for those in need

Campbellsville Independent Schools (CIS)

Campbellsville Middle School recently hosted a "Souper Bowl of Caring" food drive to collect food for those in need.

In all, more than 500 canned and non-perishable food items were collected.

Garnetta Murrell’s fourth-grade class collected 72 items, for third place.

In second place was Lisa Kearney’s sixth-grade class, with 76 items.

And, in first place, Bradley Harris’s sixth-grade class collected 103 items.

The items will be delivered to the Taylor County Food Pantry and Green River Ministry homeless shelter.

Emmett Childress Drops Dead At Funeral

Sylvester Warner, who was electrocuted early Friday morning February 10th at Eddyville, for the slaying of John and Clay White, of Casey County, was buried in the Union Cemetery at 1:00 P.M. February 11th after funeral services were held by the Rev. Lawhorn, of Liberty, Ky., at the church, The funeral being held at an unexpected hour caused many to miss attending, however the church was well filled while many arrived too late and scores were turned back before reaching the church. It was an extraordinary funeral.

CHS academic team wins awards, advances to regional competition

Seven members of Campbellsville HS A-team advances to regional competition with competitors from Central Hardin, Elizabethtown, John Hardin, North Hardin, Bullitt Central, Bullitt East, North Bullitt, Spencer County, Bardstown, Bethlehem, LaRue County, Nelson County, Thomas Nelson, Marion County, Washington County and Taylor County. In district competition, CHS competed with Marion County, Washington County, and Taylor County High Schools.

At Governor's Cup competition, teams compete in on-demand writing, quick recall, future problem solving and five written exams, including math, science, social studies, language arts and arts and humanities.
