ACPC students honored for becoming published authors Published authors: Dillon Godsey, Remington Huckaby, Marli Smith, Edward Issacs. Nia McNeiley, Alayna Marcum, Trina Nguyen, Tristyn Burton, and Cade Wall. Click on headline for story with photo of authors and their books By Dana Harmon Last semester during the 21st Century Community Learning Center/Camp Casey After School, Mrs. Darlene Campbell led a class called, "Book Builders". Using Write Brain Books, a research based curriculum that supports critical and higher order thinking, this project based learning experience ignited self-expression and boosted self-esteem among students. The curriculum, materials and publishing rights were a prize Mrs. Dana won at a conference; so this wonderful tool for early literacy that aligns with Core Academic Standards was completely free to students. Participants were guided in the use of this unique writing curriculum to create their own stories. The pre illustrated books allowed them to use their imagination and writing skills to create one of a kind books. Students dedicated their books to family, friends and many dedicated theirs to Mrs. Campbell, published author herself. Once their stories were written, proofread and edited the information was uploaded to a publisher and just a couple of days ago, they received their published copies. We are all very proud of our students' accomplishments and hope this experience plants a seed for future literary endeavors. This story was posted on 2016-02-02 13:43:58
