By Lee McClellan

Frankfort, KY - The coldest temperatures since the last visit of the Polar Vortex late last winter dim prospects of hunting and fishing over the next week or so. Kentuckians are lucky as our state offers bountiful outdoor opportunities for each month of the year. Here are some productive suggestions for each month of the upcoming year.

Loss of Kim Sallee as director of GRAS is setback

By Celia Downey
Personel Commentary

This is a note about the resignation of Kim Sallee, the Director for the Animal Shelter located in Adair County.

Who could do what she must have been required to participate in? Most shove those thoughts under the rug. But somebody has to do the job and Kim Sallee took the seat.

Kim has proven that she cares about the Shelter Animals and had the knowledge to access the necessary resources to provide ethical care for those animals who found themselves in her care.

COF copes with not winning the lottery

Things go on pretty much as usual at the COF household up in Knifley

By The COF

Well, Miz Emily says we didn't win the lottery.

(How wuz I s'post ta know ya had ta buy a ticket, besides, if I had a dollar ta spend I'd spent it on a couple pieces of Wonder bread, a slice of rag baloney, a sliver of onion topped with hoop cheese alongside a bottle of RC).

But it's all ok. The missus put a pot of homemade vegetable soup on the stove this morning and she'll slip a pone in the chamber this afternoon.

After the chores are done, I'll draw up a churn of ice cold buttermilk from the creek and we'll sit down and thank the Good Lord for his blessings and for sending us the dogs to keep our feet warm and the cats to keep our laps warm.

PAC validates 34 more signatures - total 859 of 1039 needed

Group now needs 180 validated signatures
Next previous story on Adair Wet-Dry - PAC has validated 825 of 1,039 needed signatures: 214 to go

By Ed Waggener

Adair County seems much closer to seeing a late March/early April Wet-Dry vote this morning. Thirty-four more signatures were validated by the PAC committee, Chair Shannon Sexton said yesterday after noon, putting the drive just 180 signatures away from enough to submit to County Court Clerk.

Sexton said the committee feels it could sail past the needed number, but at this point she said, they will add a comfortable cushion - may 100 extra names - for any possible mistakes.

Sexton said that validation is done on site in real time at PAC's 808 Jamestown Street Headquarters, and that is best for PAC, she said.

Last week's column: Carol Perkins: Let's go to town

Cold weather should come as no surprise this time of the year, but so many of us find it the topic of conversations in the aisle at the local grocery stores.

"Boy, it sure is cold."
