Scenic Russell County, KY: Goldenrod between Crocus and Bryan

If you have a chance for a Daytrip, there isn't a prettier one today than South on KY 55 to Crocus and on to Bryan, then back to the Hale's Highway Crossroads and a left (N) back to Columbia. In case you don't have time to go, here's a very brief video of Goldenrod blowing in the wind, with the only sounds that of the wind, blustering occasionally and an occasional cricket and a lone dog joining in. For the record, I don't think I've ever seen goldenrod more beautiful than it is this year. - Linda Waggener

Farm Safety and Health Week Sept 20-26

By Ted Sloan

Frankfort, KY - Agriculture Commissioner James Comer has proclaimed the week of Sept. 20-26 Farm Safety and Health Week in Kentucky to raise awareness of the unique hazards of agriculture and encourage farmers to make ag safety part of their everyday lifestyle.

"Farmers encounter a wide variety of risks from machinery, livestock, chemicals, grain silos, and many other potential dangers," Commissioner Comer said. "A death or serious injury of a farmer hurts an entire family. Kentucky farmers can minimize the risks to themselves and their loved ones by making safety their top priority at all times."

With harvest season under way, farmers must move equipment on roadways, and Commissioner Comer urged farmers and motorists to share the road.

Letter: Ideas about the dumpster situation

Calvin writes:
Regarding the dumpster: Install surveillance cameras. Some are reasonably priced that provide HD, night vision, and zoom in capability for facial and license plate recognition. Research before purchasing, not all cameras are created the same.

The business owner was the creator of this situation. Placing the open, unsecured, easy accessible dumpster is very tempting, not intended for public use, but is tempting. It 'appears' the dumpster is protruding into the right of way of the street. Should personal injury or property damage occur, the store owner could be held liable. Place the dumpster next to the entrance of the business. Before sun down, the business owner will secure and place the dumpster in an area less accessible and less visible to the public. Get rid of the crap and the flies will usually disappear after the (temptation) smell is gone. Be considerate of back door neighbors.
