Ricky Roy requests funds from payroll tax for JBC air

Ricky Roy, Director of the Jim Blair Center, came before City Council on Monday evening, 1 Jun 2015, to request funds from the Payroll Tax to help pay for a near $60,000 installation of a Heating & Air System for the Jim Blair Center. No action was taken at the meeting. The City is still wrestling with a very tight 2014-2015 Fiscal Year which, they say, will be narrowly balanced. Adair CTE program getting statewide attention

The Adair County School System's new Career and Technical Education wing, which launched in the 2014-2015 school year, is featured prominently in the latest newsletter from the Kentucky Department of Education's Office of Career and Technical Education.

Superintendent Alan Reed says "This is very exciting for our school district!" The CTE program is important in moving Adair county toward Work Ready status, and gives students opportunities for certifications and skills in health care fields, welding, metal fabrication, and other technology areas.

Folklorist in the Park to document Mammoth Cave culture

Kentucky Folklife Program, Mammoth Cave National Park partner for summer 'Folklorist in the Park' Project

BOWLING GREEN, KY - The Kentucky Folklife Program at Western Kentucky University is partnering with Mammoth Cave National Park for a special 2015 summer-long, National Endowment for the Arts-sponsored project, titled Folklorist in the Park. The Kentucky Folklife Program has hired Josh Chrysler, a recent graduate from WKU's Folk Studies master's program, to work as the Folklorist in the Park.

Since 1989, the mission of the Kentucky Folklife Program has been to engage with Kentucky communities to document, present and conserve the diverse traditional arts and cultural heritage of the entire state. This summer, Chrysler and the Kentucky Folklife Program will be focusing on documenting the traditional culture, arts and music of the Mammoth Cave region.

Michael Wethington, Taylor Co., KY (1976-2015)

He was a member of the St. Bernard Church.He was a former employee of Portland Forge in Lebanon, KY; Midwest Stamping in Springfield, KY; and White Oil Company in Campbellsville, KY, and was also a farmer. He was the son of William "Bill" Wethington and the late Betty H. Williamson wethington. He leaves three direct living descendants.

Kaye Anderson, Taylor County, KY (1944-2015)

She professed faith in Christ and was a member of Muldraugh Hill Baptist Church. She was a retired manager of Campbellsville Manor. She was a native of Marion County, KY, which will be her final resting place, and was a resident of Taylor County at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late Hubert Sapp and Ada Maupin Sapp.

Columbia City Council meeting 1 June 2015 - Report

Meeting more like Town Hall Meeting, with Citizens' input on par with that of officials. In the regular session of Columbia City Council, 1 Jun 2015:
  • Council quietly lays to rest controversial executive decision to unilaterally end lease with Adair County Fire Department
  • City delays final approval of Budget Amendments for Special Called meeting later this month; Mayor, City Clerk say that overall budget will be in black, with transfer from Garbage Fund to General Fund
  • Parks & Rec advocates make case for releasing Occupational Tax money to them to help with $60,000 HVAC project at Jim Blair Center
  • City approves new municipal co-op agreement with Kentucky Transportation Cabinet
  • Council approves Mayor Hardwick's recommendation to appoint Craig Lasley to Parks & Recreation Board, following Charles Grimsley's resignation from the board whose creation he championed

The Columbia City Council met in regular session Monday, June 1, 2015 at 6pmCTat the Council Meeting Room, City Hall, 116 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY. The Council quickly voted, 6-0, to renew its lease with the Adair County Fire Department to house Columbia Fire Department apparatus, at the annual rate of $12,500 per year. Mayor Hardwick did not offer comments on the quiet ending of a controversy which had followed his executive decision, at the start of his term, to end the lease arrangement. All Council Members, Craig Dean, Linda Waggener, Craig Lasley, Ron Rogers, Charles Grimsley, and Mark D. Harris voted for the renewal of the lease.

DUI arrests follows single vehicle wreck on LBN Parkway

Adair County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a single vehicle collision on the Cumberland Parkway at around midnight, Tuesday, June 2, 2015. A caller had advised they had witnessed vehicle leave road hitting a guardrail before coming back onto the shoulder and stopping.

ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (Tue 2 Jun 2015) - Kentucky State Police Post 4 in Elizabethtown has made an arrest in the May 31, 2015 Vine Grove murder of Jason Scott.

Members of the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force located Timothy G. Cruz (48) of Rineyville, KY. at a Louisville Hotel at approximately 3:55pmET, this afternoon and took him into custody without incident.
