Additional thought on Rickie Williams' splendid idea

Thinks implementation would do much to cut down on Bypass carnage

Jon Halsey writes:
Rickie Williams suggestion would probably do as much to cut down on the "By-Pass" accidents as anything else. If it were not for the tie ups at this T-Section more folks would take the straight shot thru town rather than taking their chances the other way. - Jon Halsey, Knifley, KY

We found it: Photo of the Big Cactus, Melvin C. Branhan

Photo: Melvin C. Branham and his cactus

For the reader wanting to find the photo of Melvin C. Branham and his then 16 year old cactus, has been found. We had to look back to October 3, 2008 to find it, but it was well worth it for me to recall so much about a sight - and a wonderful man who has which has inspired so many of us. - ED & LINDA WAGGENER

Spring Brownout: Adair's County's roadsides under attack

An irony of today: The huge economic development with Trail Towns initiative, is unevenly off set by Fiscal Court, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet actions as official Economic Decline Authorities with attack on environment with poisons and what Wendy Burt calls "tree mutilators." She's spot on with this commentary. Unfortunately, she may not win the battle. But she is fighting back against the Uglification efforts by the government. That's our stand. She's outlining even graver impacts of a bee die off, and threats to our treasured Adair County Wildlife.

By Wendy Butler Burt

Adair County's roadsides and hedgerows now are in the full flush of Summer growth. This roadside tangle hosts honeybees, native pollinators, box turtles, and lots of birds, including Brown Thrashers, Song Sparrows, Indigo Buntings, Cardinals, and others.

Rickie Williams has Change Order suggestion for KYTC

While they are at it, why not add a turning lane for KY 206 and Campbellsville Street? (And, while there at it, for Campbellsville Street & Lindsey Wilson Street? - CM)

Rickie Williams writes:
Here's what I wish . . . that while the intersection is out of commission, the construction team would cut into the side of the hill, build a retainer wall, and then do the necessary work to add a turning lane for traffic turning left onto Hwy 206 from Hwy 55 South. - Rickie Williams

Remembering Bobbie Coomer: What was God thinking?

A cousin reminisces, only partially consoled knowing her beloved cousin is in Heaven, and knowing there has been a reunion and seeing Bobbie say, "Well Granny, I'm here!"

Photo: Bobbie J. Coomer (1947-2015)

By Von Price

What was God thinking when he took such a wonderful Christian woman from us?

This is what I am feeling since my dear sweet cousin Bobbie Coomer was taken from us. She was a person who lived and was always thinking about how she loved God. You see, there are people who say and act like they are Christians part of their life. Bobbie was a Christian 25/7 of her life.

We grew up being around each other. Her grandmother was my Dads sister. And one thing for certain that she a woman who loved God!

Flaggers will be on site to direct traffic, motorists need to plan for delays while this lane restriction is in place. The restriction is expected to last until early September.

Poetry by Robert Stone: If I had been, a sonnet

If I had been
- a sonnet for a lost friendship
If I had been the only choice, you would
have chosen me to be your closest friend
but there were others less misunderstood
and fitter for the future you would blend.
If I had been a smarter choice, you might
have wanted me to be your counselor
but there were others speaking your delight
and ready to your wishes to defer.

If I had been a kinder choice, you could
have welcomed me to be your mirror soul
but there were others praising your claimed good
and gently chaining you to their control.

If I had been a sharper choice, you ought
to have desired fire-tested iron wrought.
- Robert Stone, 29 May 2015
