Stage of Construction 29 May 2015: Long Orange Line

2015-05-29 - Campbellsville & Fairground Streets, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
After work was done for the day Friday afternoon, May 29, 2015, there was a deafeningly quiet time, so unusual for one of Columbia's busiest intersections, where thousands of cars usually pass each day. Instead of busy vehicular traffic and sidewalk, full parking lots and stores, there was stillness and orange, and a great ditch breaching the street and a very orange look with the barrels and netting lining the dig and huge orange track hoes guarding each end of the dig.

Letter: Montie Jones married Creed Workman

Joyce Coomer writes:
Miss Montie Jones married Creed Workman. The dates of their births and deaths on their tombstone at Pellyton would make them the correct ages. Photo at http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=pv&GRid=21770810&PIpi=43185805

P.S. Do they have any more photos from Pellyton? I'd like to scan them for Keith's genealogy research.

Stumbled upon this clipping today. Summer must be here...a century ago:

Comer concedes gubernatorial race

FRANKFORT, KY (7:53amCT/8:53amET - Fri 29 May 2015) -Today, James Comer issued the following statement:
"Within minutes of receiving the results of the recanvass, I called Matt Bevin to concede and congratulate him on a hard fought victory. I asked Matt to afford me the opportunity to personally contact a few of my strongest supporters across the state to again thank them for their support and tell them about my concession. I promised Matt that I would release my statement prior to his Friday morning press conference with the Republican down ballot candidates.

Throughout the entire primary campaign, I grew to appreciate Matt Bevin's knowledge of the issues, his work ethic, and his morals. Matt ran a clean campaign which focused on the issues important to Kentuckians. Matt Bevin will stand up to the special interest groups that have held our great state back and fight the corrupt elements that still exist in Frankfort. I enthusiastically endorse Matt Bevin for Governor and pledge to do everything I can to see that he wins in November."
Comer had been the overwhelming choice in South Central Kentucky, not only in his home Monroe County, but in Adair and neighboring counties of Casey, Cumberland, Green, Metcalfe, Russell and Taylor Counties.

Local history: Rev. Spurlock, ACME Recording, Christine, KY

By Tex Reddick

Another note regarding Rev. Spurlock and ACME Recording Co. I have found another interesting ACME recording, this time being made at ACME Recording Studios, Christine, KY. It is a recording of the Erin Melody Makers (male quartet with piano). I have been informed that Christine, KY is/was where Christine Road meets Highway 206 in Adair County.
