Left lane - I-65 Southbound closed - Hart Co., KY

Closure to to Semi-RV crash

By Chris Jessie, Public Information officer
Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, District 4, Elizabethtown

The left lane is closed near Mile Point 61 just south of Munfordville (Exit 65) due to a Semi / RV crash. Traffic is backed up in the left lane to Exit 65, where the construction zone split divides traffic into two separated lanes. Motorists should choose the right lane at the split to avoid becoming stuck in the queue. Due to the constricted nature of the construction zone, clearing may take a couple of hours. Motorists stopped in the left lane between the crash site and the split point at Exit 65 will not be able to continue south until the scene is clear. Delays are likely for both lanes as southbound motorists approach Exit 65.

Guy Babin: Bad traffic accidents in Adair occur at alarming rate

By Guy Babin
Personal commentary

We as responsible citizenry should take every action feasible to aspire to making our roads just as safe as humanly possible. My perception in the short year's tenure here in Adair County, is that bad traffic accidents seem to occur at an alarming rate. I'm not sure exactly why, but it seems that way to me.

Many of our roads have no shoulder with steep drop-offs leaving little margin for error. It is also frequently reported that folks aren't wearing seatbelts. Young drivers are always at risk with their perceived competence behind the wheel, but without the requisite experience to keep them really safe. We have slow moving farm implements, Amish buggies, abundant wildlife and livestock, and twisty hilly roads - lots of challenges!

That intersection on the by-pass.... I really just don't get it.

Frances Salyers: Thinks Big Pencil a Distraction

About: Comments re article 74188 Mary Ann Brown Drivers should singletask just drive>

Frances Salyers writes:
I know that all the wrecks here have not occurred after the big pencil. But do you not think that that thing could be a distraction for someone that is not from around here. Maybe it is time for the pencil to break and come down. After all the election is over. We need as few distractions through there as we can possibly have. And we can not blame everything on our cell phones. Some people are responsible. - Frances Salyers
Thanks, Frances Salyers. As hard as it is to even find the thing without walking up close to it, I'd personally think it would rank very low as a driving distraction - though anything in the landscape might draw a drivers attention - even a heron in flight, a deer, or even a turkey. That being said, Dr. Arnold was contacted on Sunday and he said that the time has come for the Big Pencil to come down. But, he insists, while the Nov. 4, 2015, election is over, he's convinced that he presented a case so strong any ruling or rulings will be in his favor. And he asked that it be known that his the new voting machine he's hoping to build in Columbia will protect the integrity of the ballot - which he says, is the issue. -EW

The Pit Bull controversy: Don't blame Mike Stephens, source says

A source we respect, but who finds it necessary to not make a public comment at this time has written to say the Pit Bull controversy is an effort to make a veterinarian the scape goat. The source maintains that the issue can't be laid at the doorstep of Adair County Judge Mike Stephens or the current management of Green River Animal Shelter. The source said that situation grew out of a decision last year. The source maintains the issue was raised in an effort to embarrass the vetinarian.

At CM, we're still not fully aware of what it's all about. We considered it a matter of concern over vicious dogs and their owners' responsibilities and whether there ought to be greater protection for the general public, relating to the keeping of breeds known to have killed humans. - EW

Jennifer Parker: Thinks embankment needs to be cut down

Personal commentary on KY 61/Burkesville Street intersection

Jennifer Parker writes:
Although no one can stop human error of people running red lights, there is one problem with the intersection that we have noticed. If a person is driving south towards Walmart on 61 from town, the embankment on the right hand side (I believe it would be considered the North/West side) blocks the view of the intersection and traffic entering the intersection from the right. This embankment needs to be cut down so cross traffic can be seen as they enter the intersection. At least if someone is running a red light, you may have time to stop if you can see traffic flow better as you enter the intersection. - Jennifer Parker
