Whitfield backs Sen. Paul's call for GOP Presidential Caucus in KY

Caucus plan will enable Kentucky's junior senator to run for election as U.S. Senator and concurrently run for the United States Presidency

By Marty Irby
News from the office of Rep. Ed Whitfield's office

HOPKINSVILLE, KY - U.S Representative Ed Whitfield (R-KY-01) announced today that he supports Senator Rand Paul's proposal for the Republican Party of Kentucky to hold a Presidential Caucus for the 2016 Presidential Election.

"Senator Paul's proposal will provide the people of Kentucky more influence in deciding the presidential nominee for the Republican Party," said Whitfield. "Without a Presidential Caucus, the presidential primary in Kentucky will not be held until May, and by then, many earlier primaries in other states will have already selected a presidential nominee.

"Although I would not support a caucus system for other political offices, I do believe a Presidential Caucus would be beneficial. I also want to thank Senator Paul for agreeing to help raise funds to offset the costs of a Presidential Caucus. We are fortunate to have Senator Paul as a serious presidential candidate. His intellect, work ethic, character, and personal leadership skills are desperately needed in our country today."
