Ben Arnold says he'll file petition to void mayoral race

Petition will request a new election, he said

Ben Arnold, who came in second to Curtis Hardwick in the November 4, 2014, election, said in a telephone interview that he plans to file a petition through his attorney, Elmer George of Lebanon to have the results of the mayoral election nullified and for a new election to be ordered.

"It was a fatally flawed election," he said.

Arnold cited these factors:
  • Many residents of the city were denied city ballots. Some whole territories/subdivisions were not list as county voters, he said, including Bridgepoint and areas north of Russell Creek. This amounted to disenfranchisement of a significant number of citizens.
  • Some residents living outside the city limits were given city ballots
In addition, Arnold said that he believes a large number of write-in ballots were not properly tabulated because of problems with the way the machines identified the ballots with write in votes case .

Personal commentaary

Hello, I'd like to answer in response to Rickie William's comment about the attendance of faculty and staff. As a student attending Adair County High School, I'd like to start off saying I am most proud of my district.

And while it is true that we are a work in progress, we are a wonderful district all the same. I have had the liberty of meeting most of the faculty and staff here, and make lasting friendships with my educators.

Student Spotlight: ACHS Tech student Tyler Moore wins coveted apprenticeship

Technology student wins Dr.Schneider Automotive Systems, Inc. Certified Apprenticeship, beating out 44 other applicants for the coveted award.
Click on headline for story wih photo(s)

By Shamarie Claiborne, Media Coordinator
Adair County School District, 1204 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY

The good news just keeps pouring in for Adair County High School students. Junior, Tyler Moore, has been attending the Lake Cumberland Area Technology Center in Russell Springs, KY the past few years.

This past August, the Dr. Schneider Automotive Systems Inc. in Russell Springs, KY announced they would offer a Certified Apprenticeship for Injection Molding to juniors throughout the state. Dr. Schneider Automotive Systems Inc. has only one plant in the United States and it's located in our area. Convenient for Tyler since the craft of injection molding is where his interests lie. Injection molding is a specialized vocational skill that is highly sought after in many industries but predominantly in the automotive world.

When Tyler heard about the apprenticeship, he had thought it would be a great opportunity but was hesitant to apply. After more thought, he decided to go for it. He filed out the application, created a resume, and compiled the appropriate recommendations to be considered. Initially, there were 45 applicants being reviewed.

After all factors were evaluated, Dr. Schneider Automotive Systems Inc. narrowed their selection to three individuals. When Tyler received word he had made the cut he proudly went for his interview. Apparently, he shined like the rising star he is because word has arrived -- Tyler Moore is the first recipient of the Dr. Schneider Automotive Systems Inc. Certified Apprenticeship for Injection Molding in the State of Kentucky.

Tyler has been on cloud nine since receiving word of his apprenticeship. When I asked him what he wanted others to know about his accomplishment he stated "It is a great opportunity, one I am truly grateful for. At first I didn't want to apply because I thought I didn't have a chance. But now, my suggestion to all the juniors who qualify is to apply next year. You never know, you may get it - I did!" Tyler is really a neat kid with a great future in front of him.

The Adair Co. Schools wish Tyler the best of luck as he starts his apprenticeship. We also encourage him to learn all he can, from the skilled tradesmen who will be teaching him this year. What a great honor. Shamarie Claiborne

Joyce Coomer says some teacher absences unavoidable

Comments about: Rickie Williams comments on Adair School Attendance

By Joyce Coomer

The majority of school teachers are women. Most of those women have children. A lot of the children are school age. School-age children occasionally get sick. The school system doesn't need sick children at school, spreading whatever illness they might have. Day care centers don't need sick children present either.

If the teachers who are women and mothers have a sick child, sometimes the only thing they can do is take a day off from work to be with that child.

Rickie Williams comments on Adair School Attendance

Commends Maintenance Staff for 100% attendance. But says that faculty and staff should be setting example, 'The way I was raised is like this...you show up for work unless you are dead,' - RICKIE WILLIAMS

By Rickie Williams
Personal commentary

I give my highest regards to the maintenance staff in the Adair County School System for their 100% attendance rate.

And I can understand the attendance rate at the Youth Development Center for the students being higher than the faculty/staff. It is not like the students have a choice. This is a perfect case for which there is a captured audience rather than a captive audience...although hopefully those students are captive as well.

But as for the rest of the school system, I do not understand.

Put some Christmas Cash in your pocket

Those watching CM Classifieds the last few days have seen a significant uptick in activities.

Some of it is driven by need for more Ca$h at this time of the year. Some of it is driven by year end resolve to tidy up financial portfolios and sell property, rent, or reduce the amount of good, useful items no long needed - and needed by someone else.

At this time of year, there is an increase in the Wanted classification - for folks wanting to buy furniture or appliances, rent a house, find work. It's a free category. And a good place to look for the best immediate prospect.

One of the mainstays in CM Classifieds, is the Animals category. It's Free, with a few restrictions (Business, Service, Pet Supplies, and Animals for Sale are Paid ads, as are Ads offering Rewards.) Linked acceptable photos are free, but there is a charge for in-line photos. CM Animals is a big category, with 11 entries this morning.

We encourage everyone to scan the classifieds once each day - especially during this season for ever changing, up-to-date listings. (The only place you may be disappointed is in CM Yard Sales.
