Burkesville Square adds Fish Sculptures & Outdoor Amphitheatre

The feature movie will be "Finding Nemo." There will also be a short video by Charlotte Cash and Pat Ritter. A new jewel on the Burkesville Square will be spotlighted Friday night, August 29, 2014. Liza Turner says it will draw attention to the fact that we are a proud river town, and encourage local residents and tourists alike to recognize the importance of, and value in, art and local artists in small, rural communities. Renowned Kentucky artists Pat Ritter and Charlotte Cash collaborated with Gradyville Sculptor David Waltz for the whimsical fish art."

Friday night, August 29, 2014, Burkesville, KY, will be celebrating outdoors with commemoration of some whimsical outdoor art, and the introduction of a justice center amphitheater serving an outdoor movie theater. The whimsical art is fish sculpture, the work of Charlotte Cash and Pat Ritter of Burkesville, KY, with the assistance of sculptor David Waltz of Gradyville, KY, who made the casts needed for the fish. The roses are planted, the fish sculptures look awesome, and the Library is hosting the first "Movie on the Square" this Friday night, August 29, 2014, Liza Turner, Cumberland County Public Library, said. "The evening will kick-off with a commemoration of the sculpture project around 7:30pmCT, with Charlotte Cash and Pat Ritter doing a short video about the project. The movie "Finding Nemo," will start around 8pmCT, Turner said. The event will be on the Hill Street Lawn, Cumberland County Judicial Center, 112 Courthouse Square, Burkesville, KY.

Supt. Alan W. Reed - Tax rate essentially unchanged for 2014

Compensating rate approved is based on formula with a goal of school property tax revenue being the same as last year. Superintendent Reed says that some taxpayers may see a very slightly lower bill, some may pay a very slightly higher bill, but overall, he said, the school board is anticipating the same property tax revenues and last fiscal year. He says that Adair County was one of the few School Districts which did not adopt a 4% rate increase. "We were able to do this because of school consolidation and other fiscal changes that saved the district substantial dollars."

By Alan W. Reed, Superintendent
Adair County School District

At last Thursday evening's school board meeting the board elected not to pass the 4% increase for next year but instead chose to take the compensating rate, plus exonerations (prior year losses). By going with the compensating tax rate for 2014-15, the school district will bring in approximately the same revenue as it did this year, 2013-14.
