Glen Lee Cofer, 73, Adair County, KY (1940-2014)

He was a member of a highly respected Cane Valley community family, the son of the late Billy & Ruby Bunch Cofer. His wife, Anna Settles Cofer, and brother Dallas Cofer, survive. He was a self-employed small engine mechanic with immense skills on which he built a thriving business with hundreds of devoted patrons. He was a member of Bearwallow United Methodist Church and a US Army Veteran. He will be accorded full military honors by Columbia VFW Post 6097.

Funeral service, Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 1pmCT, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, with Pastor Glenn LaFond officiating. Burial in Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY, with full military honors presented by VFW Post 6097. Visitation after 10amCT, Saturday, until the time of the service.

FRANKFORT, Ky. (June 4, 2014) - An Interstate 75 bridge in Whitley County has been reduced to one lane after crews found a crack in one of the steel bridge beams.

The bridge is on northbound I-75 at mile point 27 over Lynn Camp Creek near Corbin. During a routine bridge inspection today a crack in one of the steel bridge girders was found. An emergency repair plan is being put in place. Until the repair is completed, a lane closure for the left lane of the bridge will remain in place.

Kidnapping incident turns even more tragic with death, injuries

Lebanon Junction, KY, is approximately 72 miles from Columbia, KY. KSP Post 4 responded to complaint of possible active kidnapping in Lebanon Junction; mother, three children allegedly abducted at knife point earlier the night, but mother managed to escape. Short time later a trooper caught up with vehicle mother had described; trooper attempted to stop vehicle, vehicle turned corner, crossed center line, and struck 2005 Jeep Liberty operated by Ashlee Berry, 22, Radcliff, KY. Ms. Berry's rolls down embankment. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Hardin Co. Coroner. Operator of Dodge Caravan used in the abduction and three kidnapping victims injured in the crash. Driver of abduction vehicle transported to UL Hospital. He was placed under arrest on outstanding warrant for Failure to Comply with the Sex Offender Registry. Three juveniles airlifted to Kosair Children's Hospital. KY 313 shut down for several hours while police reconstruct scene.

LEBANON JUNCTION - Kentucky State Police Post 4 in Elizabethtown is investigating a head-on collision that occurred at approximately 10:36amET, on Ky. 313 approximately 1 mile North of I-65. At approximately 10amET KSP received a complaint from the 3000 block of Wooldridge Ferry Road. of a possible active kidnapping.

Commencement exercises for the Adair County High School Class of 2014 will take place on Friday, June 6, 2014, at 7pmCT at the John Burr Memorial Gymnasium, 526 Indian Drive, Columbia, KY. Each senior who is participating in the graduation ceremony has been given two tickets for early entry. Ticket holders may enter the gym at 5:30pmCT. The general public may enter at 6pmCT.

Kentucky Arts Council to meet in Danville

FRANKFORT, KY - The Kentucky Arts Council will have its quarterly board meeting from noon to 2pmCT/3pmET Friday, June 6, at Stephen Rolfe Powell's Studio, 590 Stanford Road, Danville. Kentucky Arts Council board meetings are open to the public.

Kentucky Arts Council board members are: Mary Michael Corbett, chair, Louisville; Everett D. McCorvey, vice chair, Lexington; Sonya Baker, Murray; Wilma Brown, Danville; Paul Fourshee, Cadiz; John S. Hockensmith, Georgetown; Ronald Johnson, Fort Mitchell; Todd P. Lowe, Louisville; Darlene Mazzone, Paducah; Helen Mountjoy, Utica; Josephine Richardson, Whitesburg; Andrea Rudloff, Bowling Green; Kathy Setterman, Ashland; Randall C. Vaughn, Lexington; Roanne Victor, Louisville; and Jayne Moore Waldrop, Lexington.

The Kentucky Arts Council, the state arts agency, creates opportunities for Kentuckians to value, participate in and benefit from the arts. Kentucky Arts Council funding is provided by the Kentucky General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts.

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - The academic honors' dean's list for the spring 2014 semester has been announced by Campbellsville University Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Frank Cheatham.

The academic honors' list recognizes students who achieve a grade point average of 3.50 or above for the semester with a course load of at least 12 hours. The spring 2014 academic honors' list includes a total of 567 students, with 226 named to the President's List for achieving a 4.0 grade point average, and 341 named to the Dean's List for achieving a 3.5 to 3.99 GPA.
