FRANKFORT, KY - Campbellsville University women's basketball went on a 34-9 run in a 16-minute span and outlasted a Xavier (LA) run in the second half to continue its run the NAIA Divison I Women's Basketball National Championships, defeating the Gold Nuggets, 59-55.

Kenneth Depp Poynter, Metcalfe County, KY (d. Mar. 20, 2014)

He was a member of a highly regarded North Metcalfe County family. He was the last survivor of his generation of siblings, the seven children of he late Ellie and Sarah Poynter. His wife of 59 years, Nona Chaney Poynter, survives. He leaves 2 direct living descendants. He was a farmer and member of the Antioch Baptist Church

SFC (Ret) Clarence Edward (Scud) Hardwick, Adair Co., KY (1928-2014)

He was a native of the Ella Community in Adair County, KY, a member of a large, highly regarded Northeast Adair County family. He was the son of the late Mont O. and Mary Liz Goodin Hardwick. He was the widower of Catherine Williams Hardwick. He was a member of New Hope Separate Baptist Church, a man of "The Greatest Generation" of all times, having proudly served in the United States Army 23 years. He was a veteran of WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. He was also a Kentucky Colonel. He spent his civilian career in the field of communications

The fifth annual Sarah Irvin Gardner Memorial Basketball 3 on 3 Tournament will be Friday, April 4, 2014m, T at Adair County High School Gymnasium, 526 Indian Drive, Columbia, KY. Indictment unsealed in Green Co., KY, adult Abuse/Neglect case

Earlier List of March 10, 2014 Green County Circuit Court Indictments: March 10, 2014 Green County Grand Jury returns indictments

The previously sealed indictment No. 14-CR-0009, from March 10, 2014. Commonwealth vs Henrietta V. Murray (D.O.B. 1952), Summersville Road, Greensburg, KY, has been unsealed today, Friday, March 21, 2014. Henrietta V. Murray faces one count: Count 1 - Knowingly Abuse/Neglect of Adult by person (a Class C Felony). The Grand Jury charges that on or about March 30, 2010 through February 19 2014, in Green County, KY, the above named defendant, as caretaker, knowingly abused or neglected and adult. Said Act was against the peace and dignity of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Witnesses are KSP Trooper Jonathan Houk and Stacy Arnett, Cabinet for Families and Children. Bond was set at $20,000/10% with an order of no contact with victim.

Indictments are considered formal charges. An indictment is not a finding of guilt. An individual charged by indictment is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceedings.

On Monday, March 17 three 4-H Members from Adair County participated in the 2014 State 4-H Dairy Jeopardy Contest. This contest test the youth's knowledge of the entire dairy industry. Gabe Cowan, Sam Baker, and Walter Baker participated in the Junior Division. Walter Baker placed first in the Junior Division and Sam Baker place third in the Senior Division. Gabe Cowan finished in the top ten. Congratulations to all three who did an outstanding job. - Tony Rose

Four from Adair participate in 2014 KY 4-H Teen Summit

Four members from Adair County 4-H program participated in the 2014 Kentucky 4-H Teen Summit held at the 4-H Center in Jabez, KY. Jadie Smith, Maggie Young, Susan Spinks and Camiella Pearson participated in this leadership event. Youth participate in leadership development workshop, fun shops and other different work shops. Lily Pearson was attending as a member of the Kentucky State 4-H Teen Council and help to put on the Summit. --Tony Rose

Adair County Softball is now 1-1 on the season. After walloping Caverna 12-0 in a five inning opener, Adair County lost 1-3 to Russell Couny on Thursday, March 20, 2013.

ACSO makes DUI arrest initiated by reckless driver complaint

The Adair County Sheriff's Office responded to a reckless driver complaint coming in off of HWY East 80 Thursday night, March 20, 2014. As Deputy Justin Cross was driving on KY 80 he observed a vehicle matching the description given to him by dispatch turn onto Greenhills Road. Deputy Cross got behind the vehicle and observed it driving erratically and initiated a traffic stop. Upon speaking with the driver and performing field sobriety tests on scene Deputy Cross placed the driver, Joshua Bunch 28, of Russell Springs, KY under arrest for driving under the influence and careless driving, both misdemeanors. Bunch was lodged in the Adair County Jail. - Deputy Adam Cravens
