Adair Co. Fire Dept responds to 2 separate grass fires Tuesday

Adair County Fire Department

First fire at 11:18CT, 80 Bluebird Court, 2-3 acres burned
The first one was at 11:18amCT to 80 BlueBird court to property owned by Barbara Key. There were 2-3 acres of property burned. There were 13 firemen on the scene for approximately 45 minutes.

Second fire at 4:36pmCT, at 690 Reeves Road, 3 acres grass burned
The second one was at 4:36pmCT at 690 Reeves Road for property owned by Millard Kinnett. There was around 3 acres of grass burned. There was 14 firemen on the scene for around 25 minutes.

We would like to remind everyone that even as wet as the ground is, with the spring windy days, a simple trash or grass fire can get out of control in a instant. Please be very mindful of your actions. - Donald Hare

Norbert Hall, pastor of the Shiloh Christian Church, Adair County, KY, and local veterans Ron Burton from the Bethesda Community Fellowship Church, Russell Springs. KY, and Joe Hare from Shiloh Christian Church, Columbia made a trip to the Thompson-Hood Veterans Center at Wilmore, KY (Wilmore is 85.4 miles from Columbia by way of Russell Springs, Liberty, Danville and Burgin).

Mr. U. J. Wood, Metcalfe Co. KY native (1933-2014)

He was a highly regarded member of the Greensburg Community. Mr. Wood had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the 2nd Baptist Church in Greensburg, KY. He was a retired school teacher and Water Plant Operator for the City of Greensburg. His wife of 60 years, Mrs. Addie V. Miller Wood, survives. He leaves 11 direct living descendants.

Services will be at Foster-Toler-Curry Funeral Home, 209 W Court Street, Greensburg, KY at 12pm noon CT, Friday, March 14, 2014. The wake will be 6pm-8pmCT, Thursday, March 13, 2014, and after 7amCT, Friday at Foster-Toler-Curry Funeral Home. Rev. James Jackson will give the Eulogy and Rev. Douglas Barbour will be the Master of Ceremony. Burial will be in the Campbellsville Memorial Garden, 700 Old U.S. Highway 68, Campbellsville, KY Pallbearers: The Zion District Laymen. Honorary Pallbearers: The State Laymen and Members of the Gideons International. Flower Bearers: Second Baptist Missionaries.

Dorothy Churchill Svorc, Adair County, KY (1917-2014)

She was a native of Chicago, IL and a resident of Columbia, KY, at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late Paul Fredrick and Eliza Edith nna Zespel Glinzig and the matriarch of a respected Adair County, KY, family. She leaves 6 direct living descendants. She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Willow Springs, Illinois and was a retired factory worker.

On Monday afternoon, March 10, 2014, at around 3:32pmCT, The Adair County Fire Department, along with assistance from the South Russell Fire Department and the KY Division of Forestry, battled a field and woods fire at 6472 Highway 55 South Road, near a residence owned by Bruce Hadley. There were approximately 40 acres of land burned. There were 19 firemen on the scene for 2 hours. - Donald Hare
