Arvil Roy, 64, Adair County, KY (1949-2013)

He was a native of Adair County, KY, and a resident of Magnolia, KY, at the time of his death. He was the son of hte late Monroe & Zelva Wilson Roy. He leaves 7 direct living descendants. He was a construction worker and a member of the Rough Creek Baptist Church.

Lewis (Louie) Luttrell, Casey Co., KY (1955-2013)

He was a naive of Casey County, KY, and a resident of the county at the time of his death. He was the son of Iva Dean Mcqueary Luttrell and the late Elvis Lee Luttrell. His wife, Kim Lewis Luttrell survives. He leaves 15 direct living descendants. He was a former gate hauler and attended the Goose Creek Baptist Church

Burial will follow in Oak Grove Contown Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday, January 2, 2014 from 6:00-9:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Staff at ACPC starts Dawson Fisher fund

The staff at Adair County Primary Center will be accepting donations on Thursday, January 2, 2014 to assist Dawson's family during his time in the hospital in Cincinnati and beyond.

All funds collected will be converted into gas and food cards provide them with transportation and food.

I think most of you are aware that Dawson was severely burned in a garage fire on Saturday, December 28. He is a 2nd grade student at ACPC in Mrs. Julie Smith's classroom. I am attaching a picture for those who do not know him.

If you need to write a check, make it payable to the ACPC Social Fund.

Election 2014: Today is last day to change registration

Watch CM today for local filings, if any, for Adair County, KY local offices

Voters are reminded that today, Monday, December 30, 2013, is effectively the last day to change registration in order to vote in a party's primary, 6am-6pmCT, Tuesday, May 20, 2013.

The deadline, according to Adair County Court Clerk Sheila Blair, is December 31, 2013, but state and county offices, including the County Clerk's Office and the Secretary of State's office, are closed December 31, 2013, for the New Year's Eve holiday.

The Adair County Court Clerk's office is located in the Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY. The office is open 8am-4:30pmCT, today, December 30, 2013. The phone number is 270-384-2801.

Family of 9 year old burn victim has urgent need of financial help

The family of 9 year old Dawson Fischer, who is undergoing treatment at Cincinnati Kosair Children's Hospital in Cincinnati, OH, for for burns sustained in a garage fire on Sandusky Street, Columbia, on Saturday, December 28, 2013, is in desperate need of financial assistance at this time.

A relief fund to assist the family in this time of need is set up at Gary Mann's Columbia Pawn Shop, 500 Jamestown Street, Columbia, KY, phone 270-384-5523. At this time, they do not have money to get to the hospital an have other emergency needs. Dawson is a student at Adair County Primary Center.

Letter: On the origin of the name - Damron Creek

Paul Patton writes:
I keep waiting for someone who is well informed on Damron Creek history to explain why this creek is so named because I would like to know myself. However, since no one has responded to date I will simply state that it was named for the Damron family who used to be prominent in this area.

I do not know the names of the first Damrons to live in the area and I do not know if there are any who presently live in this region. However, I do recall some of the family from years gone by, such as Mont Damron who was a prominent member of the nearby community of Dunnville and a rural mail carrier, and his son, Rev. Woodrow Damron, a well known minster in the Christian Church. As many of the streams were named for a family who settled there in the long ago, my guess is that this is also true of Damron Creek. --Paul Patton

William (Bill) Douglas Gumm, Green Co., KY (1929-2014)

He was a native of Green County, KY, and a resident at the time of his death. He was the son of the late Joseph Mottley Gumm and Vara Chaudoin Gumm. His wife of 62 years, Mrs. Martha Lavern Walker Gumm, survives. He leaves 14 direct living descendants. He had made a profession of faith in Christ. He was a retired master printer for Publishers Printing Company in Shepherdsville, Kentucky, a member of the Rod Lowe Post 124, and loved WKU Hilltoppers and the Cincinnati Reds.
