Name of officer killed in Bardstown released

UPDATE related to: Bardstown, KY Police Officer shot and killed early this morning

Kentucky State Police Post 4, Elizabethtown, KY

The name of the Bardstown officer killed today has been released. K-9 Officer Jason Ellis, 33, of Bloomfield, KY was a 7-year veteran with the Bardstown Police Department. He is survived by his wife and two sons. MTPR Norman Chaffins

Elroy Willis, Adair County, KY (1951-2013)

He was a native of Columbia, KY, and a resident of Shepherdsville, KY, at the time of his death. He was a member of Okolona Christian Church where he was an Elder and a teacher. He loved being a grandpa and his grandchildren were his life. Among those who preceded him in death include, his son, Benjamin Willis and his parents. He was the son of the late Roy and Annie Mae Thomas Willis of Adair County, KY. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Neal Willis. He leaves six direct living descendants.

Elroy Willis, 61, of Shepherdsville, KY, returned to his Heavenly Father on Thursday, May 23, 2013.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at 9amCT/10amET at Shoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy & Brooks Rd.), 4895 N Preston Hwy Shepherdsville, KY 40165, with burial in Penn Run Cemetery. Friends may their respects on Monday from 12pm-7pmCT/1pm-8pmET at the funeral home.

Lewis Jessee submitted this story and photo from an old Columbia, KY Daily Statesman about the last turkey drive through here. There's no date on the photo copy, and no author attribution, and that would be welcome. The story follows:

Talk of Thanksgiving turkeys calls up a host of memories for Stewart Hutchison of Columbia.

Mr. Hutchison is the last living member of the last great turkey drive in Adair County.

MARION, IN - One half of an inch (.01 meters) proved to be a big difference Friday in women's triple at the 33rd annual NAIA Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships. That is all that separated freshman Keisha Chiles from claiming Campbellsville University's first-ever NAIA track championship and also the difference between third and fourth place for senior Tiosha Beasley.

Bardstown, KY Police Officer shot and killed early this morning

KSP first received reports of a fatality crash, but on arrival found that a Bardstown City Police Officer, in uniform and on his way home from work, had been shot. The investigation is ongoing. Exit 34 on Bluegrass Parkway is closed for several hours.

BARDSTOWN, KY - On Saturday, May 25, 2013 at approximately 2:53amET Post 4 received a call of a fatality crash involving a Bardstown Police Officer on the 34 exit ramp on the Bluegrass Parkway in Nelson County. Trooper Mike Garyantes arrived on the scene at approximately 3:16amET.
