Click on headline for full story, names of all involved, and 16-photo album by Ellen Zornes By Ellen Zornes News from Adair County Schools Friday April 6, 2012 Adair County High School juniors participated in the eighth annual "Safety Zone DUI Awareness." The idea for "Safety Zone" came about as an effort to demonstrate to our driving students the importance of driving safely and how alcohol and other drugs can so severely impede their driving abilities. Young drivers just don't seem to understand the immense responsibility that driving entails and how even one drink of an alcoholic beverage or the use of other drugs can have such disastrous consequences. We also highlight the importance of not texting while driving. It is our hope through "Safety Zone" to get the point across to our students. Carol Perkins: What's in the Easter basket Carol Perkins explores how Easter Bunny's methods, and his product has evolved over the years. And examines ethics standards for Easter Egg hunts. . Carol Perkins columns are frequent features on Sundays with CM The next earlier Carol Perkins column: Carol Perkins: Only $29.99 By Carol Perkins What's in your Easter basket? Wouldn't it be fun to go back to when we couldn't sleep because of the anticipation of the Easter Bunny arriving in the middle of the night and leaving us a basket full of Easter joy? Some kids found their baskets long before their parents woke up, so Mom and Dad had to be very clever. I grew up with the bunny leaving my basket on the front door step. Dave Burton writes of terrible Ski-less plight of North Carolinians Wretched, unimaginable food problems. Inhabitants not only lack basic pleasure of Ski, poor souls are lacking Kentucky essential survival foods. Pickled Dog crisis, there, too. Comments re article 51139 Adair County KY native writes of Ski deprivation in Missouri Dave Burton writes: I can surely relate to J. Wheeler's situation. Having settled in NC after retiring from the Air Force, I've realized now that we made a grave mistake of not coming back home! Not only is Ski unavailable, but neither is Big Red or pickled bologna!! We always load up the truck when we come home to visit once a year and try to ration it out until our next trip. Maybe we'd make good candidates for Doomsday Preppers!! ;-) --Dave BurtonThis, and the bargains in the local housing market should be a clear call to you to come home. For Sunday/April 8th: All in the family (in a manner of speaking) Memories of Miss Russell playing violin, Easter, 1920 Muse Clio's sense of humor sometimes exceeds the bounds of my reckoning. Statement by the President on Easter This Sunday, Michelle and I will join Christians across the country and around the world to celebrate Easter and give thanks for the all-important gift of grace. In the early days of TV, there was a hit series "Candid Camera" with Allen Funt in which they carried out this theme. For example, a jeweler trying to explain that he dis-assembled the customer's watch and forgot how to re-assemble it as he hands the bag of watch parts to the appalled customer. Fortune Street rose is absolutely beautiful - so early, too Comments re photo 44601 Flowers A perfect pink rose April 7 2012Judy Coy writes: Just wondering what kind of rose bush this is on,it is absolutely beautiful, so early this year. Thank You, - Judy CoyThanks, Judy Coy: If a reader can't identify, we'll try to get the name and post to the photo. And, by the way, we hope rose fanciers will send photos of roses. They're nice reminders of the short-lived "Columbia, the City with a Rosy Future," slogan, of Mayor Downey's campaign promise to make roses bloom in January, and most of all, of the memory of President John Burns Horton and First Lady Julia Miller Horton and their love of roses. - EW 2012-04-08 02:27:05 | Comments | Printable version

Meadow Hill Inn: Christian Churches held meetings there Meadow Hill Inn provided us an excellent meeting room and food that was as good as could be found anywhere. - PAUL PATTON By Paul Patton Recent pictures and articles about Meadow Hill Inn brought to my mind some really enjoyable experiences at this excellent restaurant. Upon my graduation from college, I accepted the call to my first full time pastorate in Junction City, Kentucky and became involved in area wide ministerial activities, one being a monthly meeting of Christian Church ministers who met at Meadow Hill Inn at Columbia on the third Monday of each month. Ministers came from an area extending North to Danville, east to Mount Vernon, south to the Tennessee line and west to Bowling Green and Elizabethtown. At one time I taught the Epistles of John as our Bible Study for the meeting. The meetings also featured a book review and planning of events such as youth rallies, etc. Meadow Hill Inn provided us an excellent meeting room and food that was as good as could be found anywhere. Being centrally located, the Inn was convenient to most of us and the services provided were exceptionally good. --Paul Patton 2012-04-08 02:05:08 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Local History
