E.H. Lepiarczyk comments on geographic feature of Putman Co.

E H Lepiarczyk writes:
Putman County must be in close proximity to McGaha! The landmark of the McGaha community is the former Pleasant View Baptist Church, which was also known as the "Mouth of Butler" church. McGaha had a post office; I don't think Putman County ever did. --E.H. Lepiarczyk

CM unknowlngly stumbled upon Downtown Putman County!

But, as the old saying goes, 'Chance favors the Blind Hog Looking for an Acorn," luck brought partial answer to one bucket list Riddle of the Ages, 'where exactly, is Putman County?'' as Dawn Baker sends as much clarification as an Outsider can handle: Chimney in photo commemorates the Cleve Burton Homeplace; it is just above famed Blue Hole on Sulphur Creek. Boundaries of Putman, clear to its justifiably proud citizens, will always be a mystery to Outsiders. -ED

By Dawn Baker

The picture is also part of our Ridgeview Farm.

The land on which that chimney stands is known as the Cleve Burton homeplace (Noah Burton heirs).

My grandfather, Welby O. Bryant, bought this in 1943 when it became an extension of our farm.

Below the chimney, in Sulphur Creek, is the famous "Blue Hole" where all citizens of Putman County learned to swim, congregate, and be mischievous.

Yes, Ed, you have found downtown Putman County. Boundaries will always remain a mystery only to outsiders. Dawn Baker, lifelong citizen of "Putman County".

Kentucky Color - Sycamore Below Ground

A fascinating local hardwood, the Sycamore, illustrates possibility that there is as much wood in a tree underground as above, as a specimen on Crocus Creek shows. Among special attributes listed below is the the sycamore's ability to stump sprout.

It is often said that there is as much wood underground as there is above ground but I just don't know if that is true. However, from the looks of the Sycamore tree (in the accompanying photo), stump and root system, it could be entirely possible.

Debbie Sinclair: The story of my birth

The author of an all-time favorite CM Story, the touching account of early childhood in Adair County, MEMORIES of STREEVAL FIELD: The day Momma didn't throw Kenny from the plane, and who may have been the first to reveal the entire cost of her father's birth, 25 cents for the midwife - a medical value issue still debated in Adair County, writes today of her own more recent birth odyssey, which included an expensive - by father A.L.Sinclair's cost delivery - and a ride home two weeks later in ambulance driven by Mr. Dallas Stotts, himself.

By Debbie Sinclair

I had read all the information of where folks were born so after a little research (Thanks, Mom) found out that I was born in the early hours of a Sunday morning - like right after midnight - at Dr. (M.C. - Millard Cleo) Loy's office.

Then we went to my beloved late grandparents', Sammy and Nancy Franklin's to spend the next two weeks where I spent most of my time in Granny's arms.
