Green oak logs needed to mushroom growing media

Calling Good Samaritan firewood cutter

By Barbara Armitage

Help!

I am in desperate need of help from a Columbia Magazine reader!

I own all the latest techno gadgets loaded with gardening information, our entire farm is Wi-Fi , I am a Master Gardener and I'm the president of the Adair County Garden Club for heaven's sake and I can't find an oak tree! So far my abilities in tree identification only include trees that have leaves.

Here's my problem I just received word that I need several 40 to 45 inch long oak logs (about 5 to 6 inches in diameter) for a mushroom growing class I'm attending next week. To complicate matters I need green wood (or at least not completely dry).

Is there a firewood cutter out there who can help me? I will gladly pay for the logs. Please call Barbara at 270-250-2979.

From the Farm, Barbara Armitage

Farmers get assurances water rates will be revisited

Meeting includes candid but very civil exchanges on water rate increases. Board will look at rates in neighboring districts, see if additional discounts for higher volume users is possible and can get Public Service Commission approval, and report back no later than March 2012 meeting. Sparksville project completion date anticipated in May 2012. Downtown projects underway by mid March. First and Farmers will handle interim financing. Generator Project at water treatment plant 97% complete. Water, sewer departments have good January, as does the CAUD office. Delinquent water customers at around 10% of total. Training coming to Columbia rather than obtain required training at much higher cost out of town. Green Taylor will participate in local instruction
