QUERY: Wants more information on Morris Chapel UMC From Loy Coomer Thanks so much for ColumbiaMagazine. I now live in Peebles, Ohio and the website helps keep me informed on my beloved hometown of Columbia and Adair County. I have recently become more interested in the history of Morris Chapel United Methodist Church. Having grown up in this community and having attended both the church and school, I came to realize that I didn't even know for whom the church was named. I am guessing that it was named for an individual or family by the name of Morris, but since my childhood I have never known any Morrises who have lived in the community. What I do know is the present church was built in 1955 and the building that it replaced was a somewhat square building with two front doors. I think one of the doors was for men and the other for women. According to my grandfather, the late Clem Coomer, the original Morris Chapel Church was a log building in the Weed community of Adair County. I am interested in knowing when the church was founded, for whom it was named and some of the founding fathers. Also, I am interested in any photographs earlier than 1960. If you or any of the local historian have any knowledge or sources of information and would be willing to share it with me, it would be greatly appreciated.
