Prays sheriff continues to put meth business out of business

Alice Wheeler writes:
MY thought on this, Sheriff Harrison won't have to answer for the work of others, only himself. I salute him for his good works. I have personally worked with him. He is a good man, trustworthy and honest. We need more God fearing people in public offices. I am proud of him and pray he will continue to put the meth business out of business..and yes, it is his job..it is his job, your job and my job..together we can defeat this in our county! God bless our county that we may all work together. I feel we are fortunate, to have Sheriff Harrison as our Sheriff. --Alice

Jeanetta Collins, Adair Countian famous in world of wrestling

Mike Watson says recent interest in Adair County's Amy Mae Coomer, a.k.a. Evelyn West, piqued his interest in another Adair County entertainer, Jeanetta Collins

By Mike Watson

The recent interest in Amy Mae Coomer, a.k.a. Evelyn West, caused meto recall another near-famous entertainer with Adair County roots. In theworld of wrestling, many names have gone down in history. Few todaymay remember the Women's World Wrestling Championships of the mid1950s. Jeanetta Collins, who was reared in Adair County, and who firstbegan in the field of wrestling after World War II at Bowling Green, was a contender for the world championship in 1956.

Ms. Collins battled and defeated Carol Cook in the first round of thechampionship held in Baltimore, Maryland in September 1956. She wasdefeated in the next round by the ultimate champion, Lillian Ellison,a.k.a. "The Fabulous Moolah." At various times in her long career,Jeanetta was also known as "Bambi Ball" and "the Kentucky Wildcat."

Jeanetta Collins was a feature interviewee in a documentary on BowlingGreen's historic Quonset Auditorium. The program was derived fromresearch by Amber Ridington for her master's thesis in folklore fromWestern Kentucky University. Released in October 2009, it has airedseveral times on KET. -Mike Watson
