Few todaymay remember the Women's World Wrestling Championships of the mid1950s. Jeanetta Collins, who was reared in Adair County, and who firstbegan in the field of wrestling after World War II at Bowling Green, was a contender for the world championship in 1956.

Ms. Collins battled and defeated Carol Cook in the first round of thechampionship held in Baltimore, Maryland in September 1956. She wasdefeated in the next round by the ultimate champion, Lillian Ellison,a.k.a. "The Fabulous Moolah." At various times in her long career,Jeanetta was also known as "Bambi Ball" and "the Kentucky Wildcat."
