Astounding ACHS Football team at Monroe Co. tonight

The GAME: The Astounding 2011 Adair County High School Football Team, off to a 4 win-2 loss start on the 2011 season, takes on the perennially powerful Monroe County High School Falcons tonight, Friday, September 30, 2011, at 7pmCT, at Monroe County High School (MAP), 755 Old Mulkey Road, Tompkinsville, KY.

If you go: The drive is 50.8 miles from the ACHS Football Field and Fieldhouse, a trip with a safe driving time of 1 hour 15-30 minutes, through Edmonton, and straight through Tompkinsville to the Monroe County High School campus just south of Tompkinsville.

The RECORD:The Falcons don't have the season record Coach Travis Gay's Adair County Indians have. They are only 3-3. But a common foe comparative score is worrisome: The Falcons beat Hart County 57-6, while Adair County was on the short end of a bruising 52-24 defeat at the hands of Hart County.

The OUTLOOK: Still, the Indians have a spectacular September going: 3 wins, 1 loss, and a win today for Adair County will come as no surprise.

The Hummingbirds leave Hoosierland, heavenly Hillsboro

Headed south

Special to ColumbiaMagazine.com

It's official. The Annual Celebration of the Hummingbirds leaving Hillsboro, Indiana, one of the largest outdoor festivals of the year in Blackie and Nina Nixon's back yard, got underway this Friday, September 30, 2011.

"These Hoosier diehards Hummingbirds, seemed reluctant to leave their summer home upon the Wabash," Nina Nixon writes, "but with frost coming on, they had to head south. Each was given a blessing and flight plans to Hunter Durham's home in Columbia, Adair County, KY."

They are headed our way. She added, "I certainly hope Hunter remembers to keep the feeders full!"

Some, the hummers human hosts will leave the Great White North, too, for the warmth of their own winter refuge, snugly ensconced in the serenity of their winter home on Sawmill Road, East Adair County, Kentucky.

Send birthdays now for October and November

Special shared events in peoples lives are a wonderful way to bind a community together. CM Special Events - Daily List of Birthdays, In Memory Birthdays, and Anniversaries - is proof of that. The list has been growing quickly since its inception and September 2011 seemed to be extraordinary.

Today, there was 33 in the column. We hope it will grow today. It's updated as soon after receipt of the event, throughout the day.

To add a BIrthday, In Memory Birthday, or Anniversary, simply send using any Contact/Submit button.

At midnight, tonight, there will be a new set of months October and November: September will drop off so a scan of it, now, would be good to add any last minute September special events. That will put you ahead for next year and subsequent years. Special events are scheduled to reappear each year, as listed, until we are notified otherwise. -EW
