President lands in Kentucky to talk about new Brent Spence Bridge

President Obama in Cincinnati to talk about jobs, including possibility of replacing the aging Brent Spence Bridge - with infrastructure funding through his proposed American Jobs Act

The President of the United States stepped off Air Force One at 2:18ET/1:18CT, today, Thursday, September 22, 2011, accompanied by transportation secretary Ray LaHood and Sen. Rand Paul, R-KY.

President Obama is heading to Cincinnati, Ohio today to talk about the American Jobs Act - a program the mayor of that city says will benefit Cincinnati. Mayor Mark Mallory said that he - and the citizens of his city - are "very excited" about the possibility of the Jobs Act because the President's plan will enable Cincinnati to keep firefighters and police officers on the job.

Mallory specifically refers to the provisions in the Act that provide funds for infrastructure, and says Cincinnati's "very large, very old" Brent-Spence bridge needs to be replaced.

Practical poetry: An Epic Puppies Poem by Poet J. Grant

Puppies with big paws, some with black tongues
True verse for CM Animals by J. Grant
I too neither have kittens with mittens, but have puppies with big paws.
Some are brown, black and white with all black around their jaws.

They are part St. Bernard and part Chow too.
You need no money, I'll give them to you!

I have two boys, all black, with black tongues,
and three girls all different colors, with black tongues, they have none.

One of the girls has a white body with black dots and a black head.
Then there is one with black ears and nose, her color almost red.

Last but least, she is grayest black
She has plenty of love, but the beauty she lacks.
I can send pictures upon your request
but seeing them up close would be for the best.

If your interested, just drop me a line.
I can be reached at judylgrant2011@yahoo.com any ole time.

Rhonda McDonald writes to Dakota Meyer: You are a HERO!

Rhonda McDonald, a student in Mr. Michael Mabry's class in Ramsey IL, sends this open letter to Dakota Meyer to be shared with CM readers, dated September 19, 2011:
Dear Dakota Meyer,

I wanted to tell you that you really desvered the Medal of Honor. You are truly a very brave soldier. Most soldiers wouldn't disobey their orders to go help other soldiers. This is especially true if it was a dangerous situation.

This is when they needed it the most. You took a Humvee and went off into a kill zone, knowing that you could get killed yourself, but you really didn't care. All you cared about was saving all those other soldiers who needed help. In that caring moment, you saved 36 soldiers! Even after you got shot, you still went back and kept getting soldiers. You even killed some of the ememies.

Now, thanks to you, those 36 soldiers that you saved get a chance to see their friends and family again. If it weren't for you, they wouldn't have had the chance to do that.

You are one of the very reasons why I respect all the people in the military that is why it is so important that we support our soldiers going off to war to fight for our country.

All I have to say is that you are a very brave person, risking your life by going into a kill zone so you could save soliders. Even though you think you were just doing your job and that you're not a hero, to me and others you are a HERO!I thank you for saving all those soldiers. Sincerely, - Rhonda McDonald

Peyton Reiss writes: He put everything on the line that day

Peyton Reiss, a student in Mr. Michael Mabry's class in Ramsey IL, sends this open letter to Dakota Meyer to be shared with CM readers, dated September 19, 2011:
Just imagine what Dakota Meyer did

Imagine walking out into an open battlefield knowing this could be the last step you took. That's exactly what Dakota Meyer did.

What was he thinking? What every Marine knows... no man is left behind.

Dakota was honored last week with the Medal of Honor by President Obama for his heroism. He saved many of his fellow soldiers from an untimely death. This man cared about the lives of his fellow soldiers more than his own.

I think this honor was well deserved. He put everything on the line, saved many, and managed to make it out alive.

Someone was watching over Dakota that day, and I'm so glad he was able to accept this honor himself. Dakota is a real hero to me and many others.

The world is a better place having him in it. I can't think of a better person to award this medal to.-Peyton Reiss

Dakota Meyer: Marty Coates plans career to serve veterans

Marty Coates, a student in Mr. Michael Mabry's class in Ramsey IL, sends this open letter to Dakota Meyer to be shared with CM readers, dated September 19, 2011:
Dear Mr.Dakota Meyer,

I just wanted to congratulate you on being honored with this great achievement. I also wanted to thank you for your bravery and your heart-warming care for your fellow soldiers. I know you are most likely getting thousands of letters, but I figured I would let you know that I am one of the many people who you inspired.

I never knew exactly what I wanted to do with my future. I knew I wanted to do something to do with massage therapy. Now, I realize that I want to do Massage Therapy for Veterans, so that way I too can help those who help to keep us safe. Who knows maybe someday i will get the opportunity to start my own Massage therapy, chiropractic and physical therapy business for veterans. Thanks again, -Marty Coates

September 15, 2011, was a transforming day in the history of Columbia/Adair County. Before that day, we were Columbia/Adair County, home of Lindsey Wilson College, home of the Adair County Band, Kentucky's first county, alphabetically, trailed by a long, long list of superlatives.

After September 15, 2011, we are Columbia/Adair County, birthplace of Medal of Honor Winner Dakota Meyer, though we still keep all the pride in the other firsts, bests, and onlies for which the community is so famous.

Kasey Blue Kessler's Hero: We had this taken Saturday, September 17, 2011, in Greensburg after the Cowdays parade. We were so excited to have our son Kasey Blue Kessler's photo taken with a real American hero. It is already framed and in his room! Sgt Meyer was so nice to all the kids who wanted photos with him. Kasey Blue, 6 months old, was completely mesmerized by Sgt Meyer and even with a room full of people trying, would NOT look at the camera. Taken by Hedgespeth Photography. Dwayne Martin: Naming KY 61 N. for Dakota Meyer makes complete sense

Dwayne Martin writes:
Rickie Williams has made a marvelous suggestion concerning the honoring of Dakota Meyer.
