Attorney General files claim against second for-profit school

By Allison Gardner Martin
News for Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway's office

As part of his ongoing investigation of the for-profit college industry, Attorney General Jack Conway today announced that his office has filed a motion to intervene in a whistle-blower lawsuit in the Western District of Pennsylvania against Education Management Corporation (EDMC), the parent company of Brown Mackie College.

EDMC is one of the nation's largest for-profit providers of higher education with nationwide online college programs and more than 100 campuses in 31 states and Canada. Brown Mackie College has three Kentucky campuses in Louisville, Hopkinsville and Ft. Mitchell.

The Confession of Barbara Armitage: 107 mph average

It was merely a noble orange acquisition caper, but Run for the Minute Maids may have a set a World's Record for an Atlanta to Tampa mostly earthbound flight, confessed by the shy, demure Lady of Tucker's Station. Readers are requested not to breath a word of this to the Georgia State Patrol.

By Barbara Armitage

OK if we're all confessing...

My mom's house in Atlanta, GA to my grandparents house in Tampa, Fl. with my best friend Martha, 4 hours 16 minutes in 1970. That's averaging 107 mph in a car that only got about 3 miles to the gallon of gas.

Worries about parking at Lindsey Wilson

Editor's note: While we think the writer raises a valid point, our hope is that Lindsey Wilson will find a modern way to need fewer parking lots, and have a smaller area of the campus paved. We hope the solution is with more walking, cycling, ride sharing, public transportation, and legalized (a simple step) golf cart access. Maybe even shuttle golf carts from unused, already overbuilt parking areas Downtown. What is becoming a stunning hilltop urban campus, and a leader in ecology, and solving health problems while dramatically raising the educational level and economic well being of Columbia/Adair County. -EW

By Sharon Garmon

It's great we are getting new nice buildings at Lindsey Wilson it has grown so much in the past years which is great.

But what about parking all these building especially residence halls has taken the parking lots we have a lot of kids that attend there who choose to drive and live at home.

When they get there, there is no place to park.

JIM: A Chi-town to Montpelier record (of a sort)

Could anybody top this nomination for the World Record Book of Guinnesses: If memory serves correctly, he walked less than five miles from the first step near Chicago to his grandparents' front door on (modern day) Acree Road. -JIM

By "Jim"

This surely is a Chicago to Columbia; or, more accurately, a Chi-town to *Montpelier record of some sort.

My dear old brother received his discharge from the U.S. Coast Guard in late 1947 or early 1948 and immediately set out for Montpelier, via shank's mare and a hopeful outstretched thumb, wearing his service togs with his carryall slung over his back.

(Ad) Want to Buy is almost a whole daily paper in itself

One of the most surprising categories, for those of us at CM, is the Want to Buy column. It's busy and it's a must read. It's the place to look, FIRST, each day, if you are a seller. There's a new opportunity, contained in this letter. We often wonder how well a middle man could do watching the wants, fulfilling them, and making a reasonable profit every time, while doing a great service:

Pattie McClister Hi! Ed got a new listing. You do such wonderful things for Adair. Just want to say 'thanks'
I looking for some used 2x4s 4 12feet long and 2 8 feet long. They don't have to be in good shape just needed for patio form. And thanks for all you do --Pattie McClister Email: pattiemcclister@gmail.com
Thanks to Pattie McClister for sending this letter, which typifies The Adair County Way - always showing appreciation - as practically every single correspondence we get from CM Classified participants contains. The only drawback is that we have to try to live up to this level of "Nice," a hard thing for many of us old curmudgeons to do. We're really working on that now, with the anticipation of the return of a couple of thousand Lindsey Wilson students in just a few days. Thanks, again, Pattie McClister, for all you do for the community. -EW

Kids Need Kicks Back to School Shoe Ministry sends thanks

By Cricket McCloud

We would like to extend a huge thank you to the community for once again supporting the Kids Need Kicks shoe ministry.

This ministry would not be possible without the help of many churches and individuals who purchased shoes and socks or donated money for the students in Adair County.

The students were thrilled with their shoes, and the Family Resource Centers have several pairs of shoes to supplement their supply for the coming year.

Thank you, CM for your support and help.

Thanks again,

Cricket McCloud

The admission and lament of "Jim"
Late of The Lindsey Wilson, late of the Sacred Triangle

Bro. Ed: I'm pretty sure there's a moral lurking around one of the corners in the sad story below, but, as with the math problem mentioned therein, I'm too dull of wit and weary of years to puzzle it out.

My child bride of lo! these many decades proclaims (quite too often, thank you) that she's been married to me for more years than she's had birthdays. I've tried to do the math on that one but keep falling short of the glory. If you want to take a run at it, by all means, be my guest. I shan't stand in your way.

Anyway, she just won't cut me any slack.

The other day we were talking to some folks we hadn't seen for a while, and I guess one of them noticed my beard has become a whiter shade of grey since last we'd met. Asked he, "So, are you doing much these days?" Before I could mumble an answer, my darling companion piped up with, "Nawww. He's just rusting on his laurels." "Jim"
