100 years ago: the life and times of Dr. C.D. Moore

He was a native of Greensburg, KY, this doctor, soldier, scholar, and gentleman, but his final years were in Adair County. An account of his life here is pieced together from Adair County News stories 100 years and at least 1 week ago, by 'Jim'

By "Jim"

The front page of the September 14, 1910 News briefly mentioned that long-time Adair County resident Dr. C.D. Moore "continues in a low state of health." In the same edition, the Cane Valley newsletter stated that he was quite feeble and that his son Willie and daughters Mrs. E.C. Page and Mrs. Cundiff were at his bedside. A few weeks earlier, the News had noted Dr. Moore's failing health and commented that "It is feared that he will not be seen at his accustomed place on the amphitheater, next week," referring to the upcoming Adair County Fair.

Memories: We had different perspective as little people

About: Pavement on Square was a lot closer to sea level when he was a kid

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

When people go back in time and think about how things were, they have to remember they were smaller then and things that seem so large when we are children are not that large at all when we are grown.

My husband talks about the horses he rode as a child being so large and then he says, "Well maybe it could be I was small and the horse was not that large.

News from Kentucky State Police, Frankfort, KY

The Kentucky State Police Academy presented diplomas to 63 new troopers at ceremonies held Friday, September 17, 2010 in Frankfort, KY. Their addition to the force brings the agency's strength to a total of 917 troopers serving the citizens of the Commonwealth.

"Troopers have a diverse mission to protect, intervene, moderate, advocate, console, pre-empt, sacrifice, testify, encourage, assist and educate," said Gov. Steve Beshear. "That's why I have fought hard to protect public safety from devastating budget cuts. While many states are slashing public safety costs and some even laying off officers, we are working hard to help give law enforcement the tools they need to better serve Kentuckians."

(ADV) Yes. When we can, we post fast

Kathy Downey wrote us this morning that she needed a Big Estate Yard Sale posted quickly. "The Yard Sale is Today and everything must sell!" she wrote. Here it is:
Estate Yard Sale. Adair Co., KY. One Day Only Saturday, September 25, 2010 at 401 Merchant ST, Columbia, KY (down the street from Adair Farm Service/Southern States). Includes some furniture items, glassware, lots of pictures most in cherry frames, bedding, dishes, futon and miscellaneous items. Everything must sell.
Thanks, Kathy Downey! We try to do the best we can for everyone, but some people are favorites, especially when they say the magic words, "I really enjoy Columbia Magazine. It's my Homepage so I read and enjoy all your news. You do a great job!!!!," as Kathy wrote. We hope everyone will go by to visit this sale. We do appreciate it when readers let us know how we're doing, and, if they like what we do, tell others about it. Even if you're a grouch, though, we'll try to post as fast as we can. EW
