Obituary: Mary Evelyn Walker, 88, Adair Co., KY

Mrs. Walker was a beloved member of the Columbia Community. She was the head of a large, distinguished Adair County family. She was a faithful member of the Columbia Christian Church and was active in civic and political circles. Her teaching career in Adair County schools spanned 31 years.

Mary Evelyn Walker, 88, Columbia, KY, died Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at 12:38amCT at Commonwealth Specialty Hospital in Bowling Green, KY.

The funeral service will be Friday, June 4, 2010, at 1pmCT, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Terry White and Bro. Raymond Martin officiating. Burial will be in Columbia Cemetery, 315 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY. Visitation will be after 4pmCT, Thursday, June 3, 2010, at the funeral home.

Obituary: Shelby D. Druien, Sr., 77, Taylor Co., KY

He was a member of the Good Hope Baptist Church and was a farmer

Shelby D. Druien, Sr, 77, of Campbellsville died Monday, May 31, 2010 at Grandview Nursing Home after an illness.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10amET/9amCT, Friday, June 4, 2010 at the Lyon DeWitt Funeral Home, 503 E. Main ST, Campbellsville, KY, Bro. Garnett Wayne Davis, officiating. Burial will be in the Good Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was the son of the late Lee Shipp and Ruby Druien Shipp and was adopted and raised by his maternal grandmother, Ida E. Druien. He was married to Ora Mae Cox Druien on August 23, 1952 and she preceded him in death of October 24, 2006. He was a farmer in Taylor County and a member of Good Hope Baptist Church.

Kentucky students can earn money
for college through KEES program


KEES award money can be used at any public or private college.

Kentucky students can earn money for college through the Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship (KEES) program. The KEES program rewards students for making good grades in high school and doing well on the ACT or SAT. The awards may be used upon graduation from high school. No application is necessary. KHEAA will send the funds to the eligible college once the school verifies the student's enrollment.

BOWLING GREEN - The television studio at Western Kentucky University's WKYU is the first PBS station in the country to use a new all LED (light emitting diode) lighting system, and only the second television station in the United States - public or private - to use this technology. The implementation of this new lighting system will reduce energy consumption by 97 percent.

Baseball Banquet at Roadside Park, June 11, 2010

Coach, Adair County High School Baseball Team

The Adair Co. High School Baseball Banquet will be held Friday, June 11, 2010, from 5pm-7pmCT, at the Roadside Park, 2310 Hwy 55 South RD, Columbia, KY.

The boosters will supply meat and drinks for the banquet and below is what each class is asked to bring:
  • Freshmen: Dessert
  • Sophomores: Vegetable
  • Juniors: Salads: potato salad, pasta salad, cole slaw, and others.
All players will need to return uniforms that night as well. If players are unable to attend please contact Coach McQueary to make other arrangements in receiving uniform.

Any 8th graders, along with their families, who wish to play baseball next spring are welcome to attend as booster officers for the 2011 season will also be elected. Thanks. -Coach Ryan McQueary

Mules always remind me of an event when I was a boy at Fairplay. In the summer the loafers would sit under the shade tree across the road from the store in my Dad and Mom's yard, whittling and telling stories.

One Saturday afternoon Jay Wheeler had traded for a couple of donkeys and had taken the back seat out of his car and loaded the donkeys to take them to Harvey's Ridge.

The group sells and markets under a variety of names including American Trade Association, Smart Data Solutions, Serve America Assurance, Beema-Pakistan Insurance Company, Healthcare America, First American Health, Pinnacle Health Solutions, Executive Healthcare, Mini Healthcare and Omni Healthcare.

Special account set up at Bank of Columbia for family

There has been a special account fund setup at the Bank of Columbia for the mother and two young boys that were in the MVA this past weekend Mother Corliss and boys are Dylan and Lex. It is a very traumatic experience for the whole family and they will be needing a lot of help going back and forth to Louisville for treatments when they get back home from the hospitals and more surgeries and physical therapy and many other special needs during this hot summer.
