Query:
Needs information on distinction of the Concords, Old and New

Location of old Yates Cemetery is difficult; mostly because in the olden days, cemeteries didn't have Street Numbers and Address, or Address Markers, as the Bearwallow United Church campus, and does today. Breeding historian wants help on easy way to tell Old Concord from New Concord. Getting cemeteries marked and numbered should be an emergency goal of the Genealogists, since this question would be unnecessary if a thorough job were done posting Address Markers. -EW

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I am looking for the following church and in the past there was some confusion on Old Concord and New Concord.

Also looking for a cemetery that was once called the Yates family grave yard and is located around Arvin Harvey Farm??? know nothing of this farm or the area that this cemetery is located in. Can you help or direct me to who might be able to help with the location of this cemetery/ I found this in the Adair County Cemetery books I have::
According to Adair County, KY Cemetery Book Vol 7 page 96 it states that from Vol 2 book page 56 there is a Yates Cemetery somewhere from Chance community to Cumberland Co., KY line.
According to the book it reads "the Yates Cemetery is located 2 1/2 miles from the Concord Methodist Church on the back of the Arvin Harvey Farm."

s/R.J. Dooley

Breeding, KY, historian

Thanks. This is a question which may be best answered by a genealogist at the Adair County Public Library, 307 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY, Phone (270) 384-2472. We'll try to post when an answer comes. Our hope is that researchers in the future won't have to worry about finding cemeteries, because all will have street numbers and addresses and will have an FFA Address Marker for safety reasons and to enter into any Smart Phone to find directions to, from anywhere! Unfortunately, the street number and address for the Yates Cemetery is not on file here. But a call to (270) 384-4760, the Adair County Address Coordinator, will let one learn for sure. Most Adair County cemeteries have Address Markers. Offers to help with funding to place them on all Adair County Cemeteries haven't met with the enthusiasm from the Adair County Genealogy Society one would expect. We hope that changes in the future. --ED WAGGENER.
