Photos from The Great Smoky Mountain National Park

Stephen Caldwell writes,
"My wife and I made the short drive from Knoxville to The Great Smoky Mountain National park yesterday to see what we could see. Here are a few pictures that we took. The first 2 are from the top of Clingman's Dome. It was as clear as any time that I can remember being up there. The third is from Cumberland Gap Road. The trees aren't at the peak yet, so you folks from Columbia still have time to get down here and see God's masterpiece."

ID's are coming in on Lawrence Hamilton's garage snake

Need ID, please photo of pretty long snake in the garage by Lawrence Hamilton

With apologies to my first wife, to her momma who packs heat to shoot all snakes and will stop the car and run up a bank to get a clean shot at one of them, and to my little niece Mitzi, who refuses to look at snake pictures on CM, we've found some useful answers to Lawrence Hamilton's request for an ID on a visitor which scared the womenfolk at his house:

Jason Nally writes:
If it was found near or in water it could be a young northern water snake, but if it wasn't near water it is most likely a juvenile black rat snake. It is hard to tell for certain without a look at the ventor. Either way, they are both very beneficial snakes to have around. -Jason Nally
Lorne Holler writes:
Looks like a northern water snake by the markings, non poisonous. Our most common water snake, often confused with the cottonmouth or water moccasin. Prefers permanent water and can be found around ponds, even in urban habitats. Eats fish, frogs, toads and salamanders. Nasty disposition and will strike and bite if harassed -Lorne Holler
Christin Foley writes:
Mr. Hamilton, your children have found a milk snake, non poisonous. Have a good day. Christin Foley.
Mary writes:
Looks like a Northern Water Snake. -Mary
Kelly Crawhorn writes:
You might be able to find it at Kentucky Snakes.org, which has all 33 of Kentucky's snakes on it. I looked under patterned snakes. Could it be a milk snake? I'm not sure.-Kelly Crawhorn
Those are the choices at dinner time: 12:16pmCT.

Problem on bypass is the cross traffic

About: Second thoughts on value of bypass to Adair County

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I travel the bypass all the time and do not see the issue. Issue seems to be cross traffic, that, forwhatever reason cannot grasp the idea that bypass traffic has rite of way. Everyone traveling on the bypass seems to be obeying the rules and laws but cross traffic from other roads seem to feel inferior to the bypass. Why?
