LWC, CU in KY Private College Week, June 15-19, 2009

SCHOOLS TAKING PART: Kentucky Private College Week is an initiative of the Association of Independent Kentucky Colleges and Universities (www.aikcu.org). Campuses participating in Kentucky Private College Week include: Alice Lloyd College, Asbury College, Bellarmine University, Berea College, Brescia University, Campbellsville University, Centre College, Georgetown College, Kentucky Christian University, Kentucky Wesleyan College, Lindsey Wilson College, Mid-Continent University, Midway College, Pikeville College, St. Catharine College, Spalding University, Thomas More College, Transylvania University, Union College and University of the Cumberlands.

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- The sixth-annual Kentucky Private College Week will be June 15-19.

Kentucky Private College Week is a coordinated effort by the state's 20 nonprofit, independent colleges and universities to provide students and families an easy way to explore a variety of college campuses during the summer.

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - A leading healthcare administrator from Louisville was honored Memorial Day Weekend by Campbellsville University at its Louisville Campus. Al Cornish, Vice President for Norton Healthcare was awarded the university's coveted Campbellsville University Leadership Award for his national, state and local leadership in the field of healthcare.

The presentation was made at the annual Louisville Campus Graduate Celebration/Convocation, held May 22, 2009. This traditional banquet features the presentation of special honors and awards, especially for students of the Louisville Campus after they receive their diplomas in the main campus commencement exercises.

"Al Cornish has demonstrated a life of helping others," said Dr. H. Keith Spears, Vice President for Regional and Professional Education. "As indicated by the award, the universal attributes of fellowship, leadership and scholarship are those that are displayed daily by this community leader.

Greater Campbellsville United donates Resource Collection

Recipient is Taylor County Public Library

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - "This is an outstanding collection," said Campbellsville Independent Schools superintendent Diane Woods-Ayers. "There is something for everyone - from senior citizens to young readers."

The collection of videos, children's books, adult books and African-American oral history recordings was previously located in the Greater Campbellsville United office, and coordinator Wanda Washington said she turned to the library in order to "serve the general public."

Obituary: Dollye Ellen Burchett Hale, 88, Oakland, IL

Mrs. Hale was the widow of Orville Hale and the matriarch of a prominent, respected family with strong roots in Adair and Russell Counties, KY. She leaves 53 living descendants. She was a member of Gully Creek Baptist Church in Monroe Co., KY, was a homemaker, devoted mother, gifted seamstress, and an ardent patriot. She has many relatives in the Adair-Russell County, KY area. She will be buried in Illinois. Memorials are directed to Columbia Baptist Church Library Fund or First Christian Church Library Fund in Mattoon, IL

OAKLAND, IL - Dollye Hale, age 88 of Oakland, went to be with her Lord at 9:38pmCT, Wednesday, May 27, 2009, surrounded by her family.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00pmCT, Sunday, May 31, 2009, at Standard Funeral Home, 215 E Main ST, Oakland, IL, with Reverend Ron Mulvaney officiating. Burial will be in Villa Grove Cemetery. Friends may call after noon on Saturday at Standard Funeral Home in Oakland, where the family will be present for visitation from 4:00 to 7:00pmCT Saturday evening.

Freshman pitcher Meridith Corbin makes All 5th Regional Team

ACHS softball sensation pitched a 2 run, 4 hit game against North Hardin. North Hardin defeated Central Hardin to win 5th Region championship

Meridith Corbin, freshman pitcher for the ACHS Lady Indians Softball team, was selected as a member of the 5th Region All-Tournament team on Wednesday night, May 27, 2009, after the championship game at North Hardin High School, Radcliff, KY.

Meridith pitched a 2 run, 4 hit game against North Hardin in the first round.

North Hardin beat Central Hardin in the championship game to represent the 5th region at State next week in Owensboro. Meridith is the daughter of LaGene and Mendel Sexton= and Greg and Michelle Corbin.
