With gun season over, Adair 2008 deer harvest totals 876

In neighboring Green County, 985 deer reported as of November 27, 2008. CM compiled chart for 7-county area below. As with all CM articles, click on headline for complete story, with photos and charts, if any

From Kentucky Fish & Wildlife

Frankfort, Ky. - Kentucky's modern gun deer season is now over statewide, tipping the total harvest past 108,000 deer. Even with several days of archery and crossbow hunting left this month, the November harvest of more than 88,000 deer has already topped every season but 2004.

"I thought we might kill 115,000 to 116,000 deer this season, but I think we're going to do better than that," said David Yancy, a wildlife biologist in the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources' big game program. "If it's a pretty typical December muzzleloader season, that'll help us toward 120,000."

A Memorable Hinman Thanksgiving -- Circa 1933By Chuck Hinman

When Thanksgiving rolled around in 1933, I was a 11-year old boy, growing up on a Nebraska farm. The famed stock-market crash of 1929 had not much immediate effect on our life.

My Dad had a few gold certificates which become worthless but no big deal. What did "do him in" and other farmers, was the combination of the stock market crash or depression and a succession of years of various weather and insect plagues.

New Adair Countian seeks tips on best Christmas light displays

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

We're some of those new Adair Countians (if we may be so bold as to claim the title) having moved in to the area in August. We love it here and wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

Seeing Terry Patton putting up his lights made us wonder where are the best places to go in the area to see Christmas lights this year? We'll be sure to go down New Concord Road, but where else can we go?

Thanks!

s/Greg Scott

First, from the tone of your letter, you very much are an Adair Countian, already, with no apparent need to attend the AC Assimilation Academy. As for the lights, Eldridge Dykes' 24,000 light exhibit on KY 900 2 miles west of Glens Fork is already up.
