Pretty neighborhood: Parrott Avenue

With City projects keeping pace with private improvements, the newly annexed Parrott Avenue neighborhood is now one of of Columbia's prettiest streets. The neighborhood of modest but neat houses is not quite so gentrified as the earlier annexed Russell Heights, across Campbellsville Street, but it has a similarly beautiful natural setting above Russell Creek. The newly paved street covers a recent sewer project, and the verges have a neat, well-kempt appearance.

Kevin Hunt, KSP Post 15, Columbia, KY, promoted to Sergeant

Kentucky State Police Sgt. Kevin Hunt, a native of Greensburg, KY and resident of Burkesville, KY, received his promotion certificate on November 6, 2008, in Louisville from Justice and Public Safety Cabinet Secretary J. Michael Brown and KSP Commissioner Rodney Brewer.

Sgt. Hunt will remain assigned to KSP Post 15 in Columbia, KY.

An eight-and-a-half-year veteran of the agency, Hunt is a 1986 graduate ofGreen County High School, Greensburg, KY, and a 1999 graduate of Lindsey Wilson College, Columbia, KY.

He is the son of the late N.T. "Tommy" Hunt and Marjorie Hunt, ofCampbellsville, KY.

Kentucky Book Fair to Feature Campbellsville Native

This year's Kentucky Book Fair will take place on November 15, 2008 in Frankfort, Kentucky. One of the featured authors will be Campbellsville native Janna McMahan. McMahan will be signing her new book, Calling Home, which is set in a fictional rural Kentucky community much like her native Campbellsville.

Ransdell Chapel speaker to address addictions

Dr. Eric Bruns, associate professor of psychology at Campbellsville University, will be the speaker at chapel Wednesday, Nov. 12. He will speak on "Internet and gaming addictions." The public is invited to attend the service at 10amET in the Randsell Chapel on the campus of Campbellsville University.

Bruns is a clinical psychologist licensed by the American Psychological Association and the Kentucky Psychological Association. He received his bachelor of arts in psychology from Indiana University Southeast in 1988, master of arts in psychology and behavioral sciences from the University of Houston Clear Lake in 1992 and his doctor of psychology from Spalding University in 1999.

ACHS Academic Team finishes 3rd among top state teams!

Congratulations! Team Members: Luke Maupin, Todd Smith, Marty Miller, Chris Yates, and Jake Leibeck.Team frist from Adair to defeat DuPont Manual High School, the eventual runner-up at Hart Co. meet

The ACHS Academic Team competed in the Hart County Invitational on Saturday, November 8, and finished 3rd among the field of Kentucky's top teams.

The Academic Team began the day in pool play with a victory over 2005 State Champions and state powerhouse DuPont Manual High School from Louisville, Kentucky.

COLUMBIA, KY - The Lindsey Wilson College National Alumni Association honored four distinguished graduates, and the student body crowned a new king and queen on Saturday afternoon at the college's 77th Alumni Homecoming Weekend.

The weekend also included a golden reunion for alumni from the Classes of 1957-59, reunions for five other groups of alumni, the Running with the Blue Raiders run/walk, and the eighth-annual Morris Shepherd Ping Pong Tournament.

Leroy Parson, 65, formerly of the Gradyville community, died Saturday, November 8, 2008, at 4:50pmCT, at Summit Manor Health & Rehab Center.The funeral service will be Tuesday, November 11, 2008, at 1:00pmCT at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Willard Parson officiating. Visitation will be after 4:00pmCT, Monday, November 10, 2008 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Tarter's Chapel Cemetery.

CWC Brown Bear wishes Happy Veterans Day

The Colonel Wm. Casey 1st Grade Brown Bear

The Brown Bear from Mrs. Kelly Robertson's First Grade Class at Col. Wm. Casey Elementary School is wishing all service personel a Happy Veterans Day.

He's part of a special project at Mrs. Kelly Robertson's first grade class at Colonel William Casey School. Each student takes the Brown Bear home for a weekend and then puts a page in the Brown Bear scrapbook telling what they did for the weekend and all the exciting experiences they had with the Brown Bear.

Shelby E. Jones and the Brown Bear took their time together to dress up in a patriotic outfit and remember that Veterans Day is this week.
