Snow in October: Was there snow once on Halloween here

Snow in October: Was there snow once on Halloween hereSNOW IN OCTOBER

Ed & Linda, I saw Pen's breathtaking photo of the mountains. We had a little different view in the mountains on our way to Camp Lejeune -- we were surprised to run into snow in October 28, 2008. We actually went through snow in Stearns and Strunk, Kentucky as well, but there was, of course, there was more in the mountains. I think I can recall one time before in Kentucky when kids walked through snow while making their rounds during Halloween, but I'm not sure. Whether it was early or not, it was very pretty!

Take care,s/Melissa Taylor

LWC students hold election party November 4, 2008

Students celebrate at news of McConnell victory, give cheer when Barack Obama passes 270 electoral votes
With photos

By Duane Bonifer, LWC Director of Public Affairs

About three dozen Lindsey Wilson College students gathered Tuesday night in the Cralle Student Union Building for a non-partisan election party to watch the results of the historic presidential election and other fall races.

While eating pizza and other snacks, they celebrated when it was reported that Kentucky voters sent Mitch McConnell back to the U.S. Senate for a fifth term, and they cheered when Barack Obama surpassed 270 electoral votes to clinch the presidency.

And two students took home a piece of political memorabilia. Freshman Chris Persinger of Columbia won a life-size cardboard cutout of Sen. John McCain, and Heran Mane of Washington, D.C., won a life-size cardboard cutout of President-elect Barack Obama.

Letter: Choirs did fabulous job election eve

About: Election eve concert a night to remember

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Amen, Charles. The choirs did a fabulous job. I love a cappella music and the first piece "The Word Was God" was great.

I'd add that in the piece "Like a Mighty Stream," soloists Molly Atkinson and Travis Mitchell did an outstanding job. Dr. Chaffin's choirs are always prepared and poised and they blended well.
