Columbian to be a closing bell, NYSE, December 5, 2008

Columbia native Doug Beard, Strategic Events Manager for Brown-Forman Corporation, Louisville, KY, will be at the New York Stock Exchange to take part in the closing bell ceremony on December 5, 2008, the 75th anniversary of the repeal of Prohibition. Prohibition ended on December 5, 1933, when Utah ratified the 21st Amendment to the United States Constitution and alcoholic beverages in the United States. Beard is the son of Harry and Bea Beard. The closing bell is carried each evening on the MSNBC Channel, among others.

Adair Co. Road Department working on Moss Cemetery RD

The Adair County Road Department will be working on the Moss Cemetery Road in District 4, hauling gravel to widen road.

Other projects ongoing today, Friday, October 24, 2008, also include:
  • A boommower crew is on the Charlie Morrison Road in District 3
  • In the shop doing maintenance work on road department vehicles
  • Using the Pole Saw on the Will Booher Road, trimming trees.
An ACRD crew will be moving the Recycling Trailer to Wal-Mart parking lot on Jamestown Street, today, for the weekend.

Please use extreme caution when traveling in these areas today, especially with the rain slicken roads.

Attorney General Conway discusses cyber crimes unit at LWC

Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway visited Adair County on Thursday to discuss his administration's cyber crimes unit.

Conway, who was the featured speaker at this month's meeting of the Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce, addressed a packed room of about 100 people at Lindsey Wilson College's Roberta D. Cranmer Dining & Conference Center.
