Residents of Jones-Wright and College Park
concerned about injured pigeon

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Residents in the Jones-Wright Court and College Park area are concerned about an injured pigeon that came to a house door wanting to be helped.

She has been taken for care and will be getting better.

It is our concern that this may be someone's pet (also pigeons mate for life) and it has been recommended when she gets better that she should be returned to her home.

If you know of anyone who may have caged pigeons, please call (270) 250-5002.

Thanks to LWC freshmen for writing to military

In response to LWC freshmen write to military in Afghanistan, Iraq

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:
As the mother of a deployed Marine, I applaud the Lindsey students for sending letters. It's so easy to just forget about what is going on 'over there' and go about our daily business. But we have so many young men and women from our area to be so very proud of. They are in some pretty unbearable situations and so far from home. Our son is due home from Afghanistan on October.

Feedback: Helping the Mayoral search for a CWB name

Comment on item in article, "Columbia City Council Report, Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2008/Mayor wants new bypass to be called something else. Asks for name suggestions"

To ColumbiaMagazine.com

May I suggest to Mayor Pat Bell that the Columbia Western Bypass be named the "Curtis Hardwick Thoroughfare," or similar name in honor of the Columbia Mayor who went to Frankfort and did so much to finally get the road through. It should not be "Hardwick Memorial," anything, because we're still going to have him around for a long time.

As a second suggestion, if this one is not popular, may I suggest "Ronald P. Rogers Roadway." Can't think of anyone more deserving or anyone who has given more to the community.

Feedback: More on famed Edmonton architect

Comment About: "Terry Simmons is architect for new Duo Co Telecom building"

Ed:

Terry Simmons designed the original Metcalfe Nursing Home around or about late 70s.

s/V. T. Yarberry

Good point. Duo County is giving Adair County at least a third famous architect structure. 1) The E. Fay Jones Begley Chapel 2) The Frank Lloyd Barbee Fall Waters House on Bull Run Road, and now, 3) the Terry Simmons Duo-County Telecom building. Columbia is becoming another Athens, another Columbus Indiana. -EW

In last night's action
  • History made as first session televised for Cable Channel 2 at 5pm tonight, tomorrow
  • Dana Walker gets approval to hold Chamber Trick or Night on Square with limited access, closing of Greensburg Street
  • Mayor wants new bypass to be called something else. Asks for name suggestions

  • City votes to add street lights on Travis Street, Miller Avenue.

By Ed Waggener

The September 3, 2008, meeting of the Columbia City Council goes down in the history books as the first ever videotaped for television.
