Thanks to anonymous benefactor for helping Adair kids

Generous Texas resident sends check to help Adair parents who are having difficulty purchasing school supply list. Instructional supervisor respects request for anonymity, but publicly thanks this very generous person for this wonderful act of human kindness

To ColumbiaMagazine.com

I just wanted to say a very special thank you to a wonderful benefactor who has sent a monetary donation to help purchase school supplies for children in the Adair County school district. I was contacted by a person living in Texas who had read some of the comments from parents and guardians on your site about how school supply lists are somewhat expensive, especially for parents with more than one child in school.

This person was concerned some children might not get all the items on the list and wanted to help. A donation arrived in the district this week and supplies will be purchased by Family Resource personnel and distributed to students needing school items. At the request of the donor, the name is not being divulged, but I want to publicly thank this very generous person for this wonderful act of human kindness. It truly is a small world when someone living in Texas cares about the children in the Adair County school system.

s/Phyllis Curry, Instructional Supervisor, Adair County School District

2008-08-22 - Shelbyville, KY - Photo By Grand Dad.
At his 7th birthday party, 7 year old Graham Waggener received a 20 inch Jamis Bicycle. After he was properly fitted with a helmet, but before his Uncle Tom had a chance to adjust the saddle, he was riding like a pro. Now, one of his favorite forms of recreation is bike riding in a nearby park with his father.

Wall Street resident thinks chain was right decision at time

Comment on: The Cemetery Chain

To ColumbiaMagazine.com

Living on Wall Street I can attest the street was being used as a bypass. The amount of traffic was extreme. I feel the cemetery was being abused by littering, excessive noise, and just plainly being disrespectful to the dead using it as a thoroughfare.

Entering the cemetery should be a destination point, not a bypass. On our street small children are out playing and many people, including the elderly walk. The amount of traffic and the speed they traveled was excessive. Now that the bypass is almost complete this issue may need to be reconsidered, but until now it was definately the right decision.

Pam Kermeen fesses up. She was a reason chain went up

Comment on Dr. Roger Smith letter

Broad consensus now reached: Pam Kermeen agrees with Dr. Roger Smith agreeing with me for agreeing with Mayor-for-Life Pat Bell; she says, finally, "The Chain can come down" -EW

To ColumbiaMagazine.com

I am guilty. I'm sure that I am one of the reasons that the chain went up several years ago.

I would drive my children to school and sometimes the 'stand still' traffic was more than I could handle and I would cut thru the cemetery to avoid the traffic.

Dr. Smith comments on No Entrance sign at Columbia cemetery

Comment on "No entrance to Columbia Cemetery"
    Photo

    Ed-

Enjoyed your comments on the chained cemetery. I could never figure out if that chain was to keep the people out or the residents in. It would be nice to have the cemetery open during the day I think a barred entrance to a public area leaves a bad impression.

I too have many family members who rest there and since entrance can only be gained from Greensburg Street, I don't visit as often as I would like since it is totally out of the way.
