Remembering Don Franklin: He was my angel Photo, Don Franklin To ColumbiaMagazine.com: If you only knew what Don Franklin has done for me and my family. Twenty years ago he gave me a job. Here I am, still working for him. Never had one problem with him for 20 years. He called me his third son, and I felt the same way about him. If you only knew how much I cared for and loved that man. They say every person have an angel looking over his shoulder. I believe it. He was my angel for the last 20 years.Don, if you can see me or hear me, I want you to know that I will miss you so much. It is so hard not to have you around. Love, s/Tony Zinati and the family 2008-06-09 13:41:27 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback

Old Quilt from Columbia, KY, found in Lemont, IL To ColumbiaMagazine.com My brother in law found a quilt in Lemont Ill. that was made in Columbia, Ky. And I was wondering if anyone could give me any infomation on it. There is a stamp on the back of the quilt that said "Russell Creek" and under that is "Roller Mill & The Farmer MILLs" and under that is "Joe S. Knifley & T.E. Waggener of Columbia Ky." Our mother worked at a sewing factory here in Columbia when she was very young, and my sister and I were wondering if it was at this place. s/Wanda Pittman memawpittman@yahoo.com 2008-06-09 05:52:45 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback

He's expected home in mid-October this year Reminder: Send mail from home to Adair Countians who are deployed to war zones in Iraq and Afghanistan. Write to Dan Kermeen and other Adair Servicemen in War Zones By Pam Kermeen Below is some information about the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit that LCpl Daniel Kermeen is with. He is currently at Camp Bastian in southern Afghanistan. It's 127 degrees during the day and maybe 70-80 degrees at night. They are living in tents with no air conditioning and get only two bottles of cold water per day; the rest is warm. Sweat and sand storms don't mix well, Dan tells me. Daniel is expected home in mid-October. We are so looking forward to that. In the meantime, I hope Adair Countians will continue to keep him in their prayers and will write to him and to all the other Adair County servicemen in Afghanistan and Iraq.
