Don't laugh. It saves him $3.88 a gallon!

2008-05-29 - Reed Street, Columbia, KY - Photo By Jane Smith.
JANE SMITH captured this idyllic scene of a dignified Columbia businessman riding a bicycle this morning, Thursday, May 29, 2008, and sent the caption above, "Don't laugh, it saves him $3.88 a gallon!" The man on the bicycle is David Martin. Bicycle use may increase. As well as walking, horseback riding, and, especially, carpooling. Many have become nostalgic for the convenience of Greyhound and Shortway bus service to Louisville and Fuqua bus service from Somerset to Hopkinsville (remember the airport limousine-style bus?) which used to serve Columbia. Bike racks, are scheduled to be installed in the Downtown Fountain area by Mayor Pat Bell's crews, and at the Adair County Public Library by County Judge Ann Melton's Adair County Road Department. The bike spiffy bike racks are being donated by Lindsey Wilson College's maintenance department.

City Council Regular June 2, 2008 meeting Agenda

Special ColumbiaMagazine.com story

The Columbia City Council has announced a 10-item agenda for the June 2, 2008 regular meeting. At the meeting, the Council will receive a first reading of the proposed 2008-2009 budget. As well, the Council is scheduled to vote and approve a second reading of a $115,000 bond issue for the Greenhils/Parrott Avenue Sewer extensions. The council will also receive and consider bids for the bonds.

Included in the agenda is a request from Adair County Judge Ann Melton for the City to shoulder it's share of the dispatcher salaries for the new Enhanced 911 Center on South High Street in Columbia. Judge Melton's request is based on a pro-rata share for each entity's use. The Adair County Sheriff's Department, and the Adair County EMS are already committed to share in the cost of the salaries. br>

Alton Dunbar added to Veterans list; new family breakout

Martha Berry wrote, "Please add Alton Lewis Dunbar to your list. He is the younger brother of the other Dunbars that are listed."

The name of Alton Lewis Dunbar is now added to the list. We now have his name and the rest of the brothers listed in this breakout:
Dunbar
Start, separate listing of Dunbar brothersThomas Oliver Dunbar, US Air Force WWII (career); Gwinn Clinton Dunbar, US Navy WWII; Robert William Dunbar, US Marine Corps WWII; Luther Dial served in the U.S.Army and also served in the Air Force, Served in France and in the Phillipines; Alton Lewis Dunbar; End, separate listing of Dunbar Brothers
This type family breakout, showing a one immediate family listing, appears to be manageable. We will update the entire list as we receive reliable information, and as editing time is available. When these changes are made, we ask that those submitting send their own complete contact information, including email, phone, and address, along with a notation if none of that material is to be public.

With July 4, 2008, approaching, we hope that everyone will take a look at the list and help us with additions of names, corrections, and other edits.
