Feedback: Freedom has never been absolute Carol Goodin Parker remembers never being able to go to Circle R because smoke would have set off asthma attack. Says freedoms for which Founding Fathers fought were for white Anglo-Saxon Protestant men. Amendments were necessary to extend those same freedoms to others To ColumbiaMagazine.com I've read with interest the discussions concerning the possibility of a smoking ban in public facilities in Adair County. As a retired U.S. History and American government teacher. I remind your readers that freedom in our nation has never been absolute. Feedback: Steven Baker agrees with Mr. Hare, Mr. Sneed Mr. Hare's letter To ColumbiaMagazine.com I agree with Mr. Joe Hare, and Mr. Sneed. Slowly but surely our civil liberties are being taken away from us by a couple of "nanny stater''s." Our fore-fathers didn't come to America and establish a "free" country so that a hand full of people can dictate what everyone else does. Mr. Hare didn't bravely defend our country in Vietnam so that he could come home to a couple of "elitist" could tell him what he can and can't do! Feedback: Suggests servers could wear gas masks Possible Smoking Ban To ColumbiaMagazine.com I live near Oklahoma City and we have a No Smoking Ban in restaurants. It is called the Clean Air Program, I understand you can smoke in bars. I know Kentucky is a big producer of tobacco and tobacco products. So I know it is hard to understand the need for smoke free public places. If restaurants weren't so Concerned that they might loss a dollar, there would be no need for a law banning smoking. I would like to see resturants build a special room for smokers, with no ventilation (to the non smoking area). The servers could wear gas masks. s/Bobby D. Feedback: Thinks Mr. Hare is right See letter Joe Hare letter on smoking ban To ColumbiaMagazine.com I think Mr. Hare is right on point with his post. These are our civil liberties we are talking about here.Don't you find it ironic that our armed forces are in countries around the world fighting for freedom, but when they return home they find that were trying to take away that very freedom there fighting for, in the words of Samuel Adams "The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil constitution, are worth defending at all hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attacks. We have received them as a fair inheritance from our worthy ancestors; they purchased them for us with toil and danger and expence of treasure and blood." I think it is time we stand and fight injustices like this, this is still a free country after all, I think. Teacher Marshall Todd a positive mentor "If there was ever a teacher I wanted to thank it was her."-VSS By Linda Marcum Waggener The letter that follows brought a flood of warm memories about a wonderful friend and mentor, Marshall Paull Todd. With permission to share it, the writer's letter and the article that follows it, are dedicated to Marshall's memory and to all the teachers who positively influence the lives of young people. Dear Linda, For some reason today I had been thinking of my former fifth grade teacher Marshall Todd. I looked her up on the internet not expecting to find anything and there was an article written by you probably 8 or more years ago.
