CJE thinks new new board, choice of director/recruiter an excellent one
By Ed Waggener

Adair County Judge Ann Melton says that the new economic development board to govern the successor to the Columbia-Adair County Industrial Development Board (CACIDA) will have nine members, including the County Judge Executive and the Mayor of Columbia plus seven members jointly approved by the Columbia City Council and the Adair County Fiscal Court.

As well, a highly qualified Adair Countian, _________________, will be hired as the economic development director and will serve as the chief recruiter, Judge Melton said.

"I think the new group is made up of excellent choices," she said, "and I don't think anyone will argue over the name of the woman who will head the new organization."

After that, the public will know the names.

Judge Melton did say that the director, _________________, is a highly qualified, highly respected individual. The seven member will include:
  1. _________________, from the old CACIDA Board.

  2. _________________, from the old CACIDA Board.

  3. _________________, representing Lindsey Wilson College

  4. _________________, a Columbia Businesswoman

  5. _________________, a Columbia manufacturer

  6. _________________, a Columbia manufacturer

  7. _________________, a representing the agricultural community
The Columbia City Council is expected to be asked to approve the appointments immediately, so that Fiscal Court can approve the same board at it's regular meeting Tuesday, May 13, 2008.

Judge Melton said that she, Mayor Patrick R. Bell, and Columbia-Adair County Executive Director Sue Stivers put the new plan was put together, and that the seven members were jointly selected by the three.

She did not say the exact amount, but estimated the cash on hands is now over $170,000.
