AC Board of Educaton presents 2007-2008 band sign



2008-05-01 - Adair County Middle School - Photo By Ed Waggener.
Superintendent Darrell Treece and the Adair County Board of Education presented this sign to the 2007-2008 Adair County High School Band in a special program at Adair County Middle School. The sign includes a full color photo of the great band and lists Band Director Tim Allen and the names of all the members of the band. The sign will hang in the hallway of Adair County High School. Members of the board of Education are Chairman Chris Watts (3), Greg Willis (1), Marsha Walker (3), Floyd Burton (4) and Mike Harris (5). All members except for Mr. Willis were present at the Thursday, May 1, 2008, meeting.

James Buchanan enlists in United States Army

James H. Buchanan has joined the United States Army. His enlistment gives him the option to learn a new skill.

He graduated from Adair County High School in 2006. He is stationed at Fort Jackson, Columbia, SC, for basic training.

He is the son of Linda Collins, (Mike Collins), of Crocus RD., Glens Fork, KY, and Danny Buchanan (Harriet Black), Old Sano Road, Russell Springs, KY.

More rejoicing at the ACRC! Two more join

Two new Recyclers have joined the Adair County Recycling Center's program and will have regular pickups, Lisa Lee, Administrative Assistant to Judge Ann Melton announced today. They are:
  1. Adair County Regional Library--Director Lee Ann Jessee
  2. Pyles Excavating--Danny Pyles
"Judge Melton, Pewee (A.L. Sinclair, the Adair County Solid Waste Czar), and I are extremely pleased to add these two important Adair County organizations to the growing list of dedicated Adair County recyclers," she said.

Community leaders offer prayers in service at noon

Nine community leaders offer prayers on selected topics at the National Day of Prayer observance held in Downtown Columbia, at 12:15pmCT, today, May 1, 2008.

Rev. David Alexander of the Columbia United Methodist Church, presided at the service, which was opened with the national anthem and closed with a moving rendition of Amazing Grace, both by Columbia baritone Shawn Samuell.

Obituary: Walter A. (Jug) Pyles, 84, veteran WWII

OBITUARIES

Mr. Pyles was a member of a large, highly respected Northeast Adair County family. He was attended the New Hope Separate Baptist Church and was an automobile mechanic for many years.

Walter A. (Jug) Pyles, 84, a resident of Summit Manor Nursing Home, formerly of 549 Millerfield Road, Columbia, KY, (the Millerfield Community) passed away Thursday, May 1, 2008, at 3:42am at the Westlake Regional Hospital in Columbia, KY.

The funeral service will be Saturday, May 3, 2008,, at 1:00pmCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with Bro. David Coffey officiating.

CU Chorale wins Silver Cup in International Competition

Columbia, Kentuckian Aubrey Skutt is member of the Chorale

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Dr. Frieda Gebert, director of the Campbellsville University Chorale, presented Dr. Michael Carter, president of CU, with the award-winning silver cup which the chorale had earned from its first international competition in Italy over spring break.

"I don't want to contradict Dr. Gebert, but I believe this cup belongs to each of you," Dr. Carter said, as he addressed the chorale after being presented with the cup. "You put forth the effort and we are very proud of you. Thank you for representing Campbellsville University with dignity and respect."

Five fatalities in month equal year to date difference

During the month of April 2008, there were 37 traffic accidents investigated by the State Police working in the Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY, area in the 11 counties of Adair, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, Green, Marion, Metcalfe, Monroe, Russell, Taylor and Washington.

There were five fatalities. This brings our yearly fatality count to 16 compared with 11 through this same period in 2007:

This is a 1994 Ford Ranger 4x4 it is a v6 4.0 and it has automatic transmission. I am asking $1000 for it or best offer. Truck has 222366 miles on it. The truck is green and has manual lock out hubs. Engine is strong. Will need battery.The truck will need a transmission soon. It can be driven, but slips. The interior is dirty and needs to be cleaned and the roof inside is falling down, needs to be reglued. Needs a taillight. Brakes are brand new all the way around; rotors and calipers, and has a K&N filter CD player; it is a dual flip screen, and it is brand new. Needs a set of back tires. The front tires are new; ball joints are new. Driver side window needs to be fixed; the window is good but needs new gears and motor for window to go up and down. Has some scraches and dents in the bed and on the panels.Very little rust if any. Four wheel drive is good. Hi, Cousin!

I started genealogy research a little late. My mother had just passed away and I was looking for something to do that would take my mind off of her. Of course, genealogy research made me wish for her even more, so I could share all I had found.

When I was growing up, I was told that certain Bryants were not related to other Bryants. My sister (as a realtor in Indiana) had a customer once tell her that they were not related to the Burtons on the hill, but the other Burtons in Adair County.
