"The fact is if you are a Burton or a Bryant from Adair County, you are related to the other Burtons or Bryants regardless if they are on a hill or in a valley.

Hi, Cousin!

I started genealogy research a little late. My mother had just passed away and I was looking for something to do that would take my mind off of her. Of course, genealogy research made me wish for her even more, so I could share all I had found.

When I was growing up, I was told that certain Bryants were not related to other Bryants. My sister (as a realtor in Indiana) had a customer once tell her that they were not related to the Burtons on the hill, but the other Burtons in Adair County.

The fact is if you are a Burton or a Bryant from Adair County, you are related to the other Burtons or Bryants regardless if they are on a hill or in a valley.

Bryant is my mom's maiden name. She was descended from Joe C. and Viola Mae Bryant. Miss Mae, as most called her, was the daugher of John Austin and Rutha Belle (Brockman) Bryant. But she had no idea that the man she married was her 3rd cousin. Everyone told her it was a different Bryant family.

Funny thing is that John Austin Bryant and Rutha Belle Brockman were related as well. It turns out that Rutha Belle Brockman's great-grandmother was Rachael Bryant who was the daughter of John and Elizabeth Bryant.

All the Bryants in Adair County go back to this couple, including William and Cyntha Bryant. I had a terrible time finding William. He was the only child of John and Elizabeth (Young) Bryant. Elizabeth passed away and John remarried. John was the son of John and Elizabeth Bryant mentioned in the previous paragraph (so that made it confusing).

William married his first cousin, Cyntha Bryant. And, yes, she was the daughter of James and Ellender (Powell) Bryant. And James was the son of the John and Elizabeth who are the ancestors of every Bryant in Adair County.

I would love to hear from other Bryant family members. Actually anyone from Adair County could contact me and I bet in enough time, we could find out we're related.
